Re: seeing joe tomorrow , anything diferent gear wise?( JB GOLDTOP??)

Well at cardiff (and the other UK dates) I'm pretty sure it wasn't the real '59....I've heard Joe doesn't take it touring outside of the US for insurance and value reasons etc.....besides, the '59 LP I saw him with at Cardiff looked far too new and shiny to be a real 59

I think the red mystery guitar was indeed the Musicman - thanks for clearing that up!  cool

It was in fact one of the "real" '59's, the "Skinner", which he bought just before the tour.  Joe now has two! The other is "Magellan". He plays one every show.

He's got another '59?? Man, there's no stopping him! 'Skinner' is in very good condition then for it's age...I did wonder why the young looking tech wandering around with it on stage before the gig started looked so nervous big_smile

Well, if you break a string on the git onstage, there must be a ready reserve standing by. Just any old LP wouldn't do.  tongue

I stand ultimately corrected smile And the decidedly not-so-reissue 59 'Principal Skinner' is an absolute beauty too! Although one feels compelled to ask....why is it called 'Principal Skinner' Joe? Just out of interest, I think it's a pretty cool name for a guitar  cool

And congrats on getting to play the Rory Strat, that must have been awesome - wish I'd been there to see that (although I was more than happy enough with being at the Cardiff show smile ) and Bernie's 59 too!

Peace
James

Re: seeing joe tomorrow , anything diferent gear wise?( JB GOLDTOP??)

I named it after the Simpson's character... It was known as the Skinner Burst because it surfaced and was sold by the original owner's family via Skinner Auction House in Boston.   I thought it was time for a name upgrade...

Thanks for the personal reply Joe! Well judging by it's (and your) performance in Cardiff the Skinner burst certainly is the 'Principal' of Les Paul tone...so it was a very apt name upgrade wink

Re: seeing joe tomorrow , anything diferent gear wise?( JB GOLDTOP??)

Whilst slightly vulgar, I have just totted up the value of those guitars.

Including the BM and RG guitars, I reckon (valuing JB's LP without his association at a conservative £75k or $125k)

£1, 184, 000.

Or

$1,941,760.

I wonder it that's a world record for one gig!!!

My guesstimates are below- I may be wrong on a few and it's in GBP, not USD. Times by 1.64 for USD.

Very unsure as the value of the Explorer as that's a very rare guitar with 3 pups.

1959 Gibson Les Paul 9-1951 not a reissue by any means aka "Principal Skinner" without JB association £75k, with £100k
Historic Makover Dark burst £4000
JB LP goldtop with bigsby prototype £4000
JB LP prototype Sunburst £5000
1972 ES 355 £3500
1982 Gibson Explorer 3 pu £3500
1983 Gibson flying V formerly owned by Adam Ant £6000
Musicman Steve Morse custom one off £5000
Musicman 25th anniversary £2000
Alvarez Yari acoustic. £1000

Bernie Marsden's 1959 Les Paul without BM assoc £75000
Rory Strat ok- I'm going to pitch this at....

£1m.

"Who wants an orange whip? Orange whip? Orange whip? Three orange whips...."

JB LP Goldtop No. 290- Aged...rather like me.

yikes There's a shocker for the gearheads! You might be a tad low on the '59's. Half again might be closer to the mark. Joe does love his guitars.  cool
