Bibs are no longer allowed roll  Apparently the letter of the law that applies to Premiership teams (clear distinctive difference in kits down to shorts and socks) now applies to 8 year olds... hmm  So no more can we rely on a £15 collection of florescent yellow bibs in the kit bag, we have to now have a second FULL kit for every team...So who pays for that then? - We run our club on a not for profit basis with all of us managers and coaches volunteering our time for nothing, - we charge the parents exactly what it costs us to train (ground hire) and kit out the kids...Sponsorship has all but gone over the last year or so with present economic climate, - we have already had to subsidise a couple of the kids because parents have lost jobs and so on...The English FA and there regional FA's are unbelievably incompetent.  mad

Ian I hope that within your league you can find the will to fight the idiocy of such a decision. The background to the decision needs to be unearthed. How, in committee it was discussed, who was present and how it was voted in. Get your clubs together and fight it.

It would be easy to condemn all within the various FA's of incompetence, but there are probably many well meaning souls trying to do a good job. But something like this undoes all the good work. To those deciding it probably seemed a logical operational 'good practice' decision. Perhaps no one even stopped to consider the financial implications involved.

It would be so much better if when they considered such decisions like this they would at first get a kit firm on board to provide preferential costings to supply additional equipment and then do the math. It might be then that workable solutions could be found.

Trouble is with that theory, that would be a business like approach, which is way beyond the tea and biscuits dictatorship thinking of regional and even the National FA's.

I feel it is not just coincidence that the abbreviation for Football Association is FA. Sums up there overall worth too I guess.

- I am glad to read of your positive optimism Mike about the local FA... I have to say that my direct experience over a number of matters where children playing football should be put first leads me to be negative.. smile

We have formally written to them asking about the decision but as is always the case they take ages to reply, - whilst we get fined if we do not reply to them within the stipulated time! The attitude is very much adherence to anything that they dictate, - no consultation.

What it comes down to is the ethos from the top that the game should not vary in any way from a World Cup game to a group of 10 year olds playing their first 11 a-side game. - Which is why we do no get goal mouth technology at the top and can no longer wear bibs at the bottom...There was news yesterday about the English FA blocking a game between member of parliament and journalists because one of the players on the team was female... - and there rules state..zzz

Brack, - for some reason I was less bothered about the Arsenal game than I was about the Liverpool one, - it was all a bit flat and then when Sagna went out with what looked and turned out to be a broken leg I think it was more a case of "job-done" than celebration. Do not tell anybody that I have said this but I am starting to feel sorry for Wenger... - 4th place has to be the target this year, and I think Arsenal have blown that already. - Spurs still have a way to go, - we do look good for it but I have a nasty feeling that there will be a twist part way through the season involving Harry...

Someone I know was at a meeting at Upton Park where David Gold said this and that in a closed circle. One of the things he said was that it was not looking at all good for 'Arry in the trial that apparently can't be mentioned.....

Mike, before we totally dis the FA here, does not our savior, the Emperor of Barking, our lord of Brooking, still work there?

It's going to be a long season in the fizzy pop, especially if BFS (Big Fat Sam) keeps playing 4-5-1.  roll   sad

my reply 431 in this thread "might" tell you where my info comes from... wink

And today 'arry is awarded Premiership Manager of the month so gets the trophy sponsored by Barclays bank....any connection between bankers and dodgy dealings? I could not possibly comment!!  big_smile

Re: The Football Topic

On the subject of 'dodgy dealings' I see the proposal (as it stood) for the Hammers to take over the Olympic Stadium now lies in tatters.

I'm not unhappy about that on the one hand, but on the other hand that it should have been (mainly) Tottenham's objections that caused it.

They didn't want the stadium because of where it was and what it was, and yet objected to WH having it because of the deal they were able to get, despite receiving the necessary support they wanted and needed from the Lord Mayor's office to enable Spurs to go further forward on their own stadium plans.

As I say, I think WH's original deal with Newham council was dangerous for both parties, but Newham had their eyes open and were only 'guaranteeing' the loan, not actually being forced to use public money unless it failed.

To be honest Orients claims against the bid (IMO) were more valid than Spurs. I'm still torn about the rights and wrongs of taking on such a stadium, but the fact is, to survive as a premiership club you must increase the potential stadium income. Spurs realise this so denying someone else the possibility is very sour grapes indeed.

So now there will be a new bidding process which would involve leasing the place. Lower costs for the tenant with the Government probably having to foot the bill for the conversion. It may only now cost 2mill per year to rent it!

Attractive all over again for Tottenham I guess, but not their fans! I would be happy to share the place with them, and find a solution to Orients objections together.

The problem though really now is Spurs don't want it (their fans certainly not) but they wouldn't want a 'premiership' West Ham to get it and start developing a fan base that could have been theirs, sooner than they can. Although according to Spurs that wouldn't be the case because they have 30,000 fans on the ticket waiting list.

I'm interested to see how this plays out. I can still see West Ham getting it and Spurs continuing to moan about it for ever.

If I was Gold and Sullivan I would call Levy's bluff and put a 'share deal' on the table, then he will have s*** or get off the pot!

ManU 1 - Citeh 6 (six)  lol

Biggest home defeat since 1955 - five points is already a huge gap at this stage of the season.

I saw that with mouth agape. There was coverage here of the game. What a drubbing!

Our resident super ManU fan is conspicuous by his absence.......

Strange things elsewhere too, not only the Chavs losing at QPR, but what about Levante leading the Primera Division? Or Ajax (deservedly) only being sixth in Holland?

It's a funny old game, I tell ya.  roll

Re: The Football Topic

......and Bayern finally conceding goals and losing!

Good day for the sport. Upsets and drama. Well done City. But there are always good and bad days. Uniteds quality is they have less of the latter and more of the former and that is what City have to emulate to come anywhere near their standard over the long term.

Money should sort it though...........as always..................

And the Blades losing yet another lead right at the end. I must say however, it is nice to think Man U now know what the rest of us much poorer relatives feel like on a regular basis. big_smile

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Re: The Football Topic

another interesting weekend in the Premiership; Chelsea losing points, - Man City running away with it? Man Utd looking fragile and Spurs going from strength to strength, - oh and West Ham scraping a lucky victory at home according to the 2 "lady's" from Leicester who I was sat next to on the train Saturday night!  wink

Final point: Scott Parker is a pretty useful player to have in your team!  smile

Re: The Football Topic

Long long way to go. City look good, but does anyone back against United now? You can't even think about titles until you get through the Xmas NY programme. When they still have a 5 point lead and maybe a game in hand in February talk to me about it.

Spurs? Harry knew what he was doing with Scott. Spurs fans I know grumbled about his age and injuries, but neither were a problem during the gruelling seasons at Upton Park. His only serious lay off came after international duty early last year and that cost us for sure.

Still this is a great run they are on and would have had them top if not for such a bad start, but then everyone's coming back now, even Arsenal, so don't expect Newcastle to hang on to 4th for long.

As for West Ham, well I think Leicestershire women would be better keeping their opinions there. Still at their chastity is safer now with Goran-Eriksson gone! Anyway WH were 2 to the good before Leicester even woke up. But they plugged away, scored a great second goal and got in with a shout. Thats football. With a 20+ GD I'll take that kind of luck any day!

QPR had Spurs rocking yesterday at 2-1. If Rangers had got a second goal it might have been 2 women from Sheperds Bush bending your ear!

I'm happy for Hammers to be right where they are now. Let Soton have the limelight and do all the running. Allardyce might not be winning any fans away from home but honestly, when was the last time you could actually set a Hammers team up to defend for 90 minutes? Never known it in my lifetime. One rule and rule only for us this year: Get out of this division.

For now roll on Spurs. There will never be a better time to assert London supremacy credentials than this season with both Aresenal and Chelsea on the ropes......

Re: The Football Topic

I will try to say something sensible about last night's events at my second club, Ajax. At the moment, I'm still livid, really, really p****d off.

Small nutshell - the club's greatest ever player and icon has been stabbed in the back by the other members of the board of commisioners. It's a nasty, filthy business. Bah.  mad

Could have been a lot worse. Now all they have to do is travel a lot and perform for once.

Re: The Football Topic

Yet another 'group of death' for Holland - however, recent experience has shown that they play much better against better teams so I'm kind of glad that they didn't get the 'easier' teams like Ireland, Greece or Russia. You have to beat good teams to win - the only thing that really worries me is having to play bloody Portugal again. It's always a clog-fest against them. roll

England will probably squeak into the quarters and lose there.
