Topic: And- Marshall 30th Anni Combo 1 x 12

Same question- what's the general view on these for Bona-tones?

I had one before and I recall it was a very versatile amp and had some cracking distortions, and, for a Marshall, a darned nice clean channel too.

Answers on back of postcard.

Re: And- Marshall 30th Anni Combo 1 x 12

I used to own one of the Limited Edition's from the early 90's. Great amp and very versatile, each channel has a multitude of voicings with different tone stacks. Channel 2 was my favorite, medium gain, much like the low input on a JMP/800. It has fx loop, di out, full/half power (100W/50W), pentode/triode mode (down to 25W), everything you need. I think the speaker was a big part of the sound, reminded me of EV12L's.
But it's heavy as f**k, some 45kg, 50kg with the footswitch included, no fun when you live on the 4th floor...

It does the Marshall part of the Bonasound pretty good and at reasonable prices, since you can get one for €650-850 over here. You'd still need to add an amp which is a little darker to really get the Bonasound, on a budget I'd get a Hughes and Kettner Statesman dual 6L6 or a Blackstar HT40 or something like that.

On the topic of 80s-90s channel switching Marshalls...how do the 2205 and 4212 JCM800 combos stack up in terms of tone?? The ones with two channels and reverb...theres a few on ebay at the mo (including a very nice white tolex one), and I've heard that Joe himself has said there's not much difference in tone between these combos/heads and the Silver Jubilees...

Get Joe tone with any amp...

Start with vol and tone on 5 on the guitar

adjust amp to perceived "joe" taste....

get louder and more trebly by rolling up on vol or tone respectively.  cool

Re: And- Marshall 30th Anni Combo 1 x 12

Well of course...I've been getting my tone that way for years... it's the simplest and best way to control one's tone cool

I was really referring to the similarities in the Silver Jubilee and the JCM800 4212's circuits, and the tone similarities if any...

The 4212 is not far from the jubilee. Personally I don't care for the clean channel and the reverb, the drive channel is classic jcm800. Like all Marshalls it sounds best when played loud. A tube screamer to tame the highs and you should sound great!
