I don't subscribe to this UK publication, but Patrick Droney's mom sent me this in an e-mail from her issue blues Matters #38, so maybe someone that subscribes can elaborate.  I LOVE the way Stevie is sandwiched between Walter Trout and Joe.  I'm not sure if fans here going to Crossroads are aware that Steve and Eric played that Highclere Castle benefit in mid-May.  I personally would have loved to have been a fly on the wall the first time Stevie and Eric heard Joe's version of Had To Cry Today.  I would think they were truly flattered!!  I would LOVE to someday read an interview where Winwood and/or Clapton comment and pass off the the highest respesct for Joe's cover!  The youtube of Stevie and Eric playing HTCT in May has been removed, but I'm wondering if it was a warm-up for Crossroads?

If you go about two-thirds down, you'll see Clapton defending Winwood as a guitarist.  I know it's girly-girl and my brain spends way too much time in rock n' roll fantasyland, but damn, I think that's cute!!! roll Being a long time Winwood fan, I always love when Stevie plays his guitar in concert, always reminds me of his huge talent.  A college kid recently paid me a visit to sell me Cutco knives...saw my Winwood CD on the kitchen counter, likes Winwood, but had no idea about the Spencer Davis Group etc.  He didn't get out my door without a Winwood 101 class! There is currently at least 1 or 2 commercials on TV w/Spencer Davis music playing in the background.

And for those going to Crossroads-  Susan Tedeschi & Robbie Robertson (the Band) have been added to the lineup and you are not allowed to go in and out, like the previous Crossroads in TX.  I tried to get tickets originally, but am not going myself.

Steve Winwood?  Plays guitar? Don't you know what the night can do?

that last question was rhetorical...

Funny...now you are showing your age with that choice of songs! big_smile  Were you born in 1979?  Now you have to listen to my Winwood 101 class...Steve was playing guitar in a band at 8 and shortly thereafter became proficient on drums and piano.  Keep in mind, Steve wrote Had To Cry Today and there is no piano in that song.

ha ha - I am undone.

but I HAVE seen videos with Steve Winwood singing blues songs and trying to get recognized as a european blues figure instead of the child prodigy label. It might have been on VH1. Rod Stewart, Steve Winwood and other singers had a very strance run in the 80's....even Clapton.

I came across these clips of Steve looking for something else.  And the 80's,  yeah it had its moments...I saw the first 20 minutes of Saturday Night Fever with John Travolta in the gym the other day...Burn Baby Burn Disco Inferno...Burn Baby Burn...good song for a workout. I forgot about the opening scenes of that movie, very funny.
