Looking forward to seeing the video, cheers Martin. Just tell the lads not to run out of steam before they get to Hartlepool.

Apologies for delay, it's uploading issues, trying again now! Mean while I have two tickets for going free if anyone knows folks in the area.

Dat would be York Mr Wooders. We were just loading in and bumped into Chantel she is playing right next door.

With an offer like that, who could refuse?  Here's a few thoughts on the evening's proceedings

A disappointingly low turn out wasn't going to deter the VATA boys from tearing into their York debut. Straight away, they launched into a roaring "Working Man" and several other storming "Radium" cuts including "Bad Girl" and the snarling "Backstabber". "Racing With Life" has had a funky makeover since I heard it last, and have to admit, I liked,  and then the lads just went for a couple of Stevie Ray Vaughn numbers which they totally owned. A slower showcase number for Virgil, The Hoax's "Don't Shake My Hand" gave the small but enthusiastic audience a breather before the lads signed off a shortened set with a classic take on Voodoo Chile right up to the curfew.

Judging from the number of people we saw pouring themselves out of taxis while we were walking to and from the gig, I think Friday is party night in York; I wonder how Chantel fared audience-wise. Opening for VATA were two, young, local bands; my apologies to them as I didn't catch their names, a semi acoustic trio (for me, the better of the 2 bands) and an electric trio. That gave VATA just over an hour to impress on their York debut, but I don't think York has been hit by a group with such fierce determination since Erik & The Vikings, several hundred years ago.

Martin, thanks again to you and the guys for your generosity; another great night's music which more than made up for getting lost on the outskirts of Thirsk.

The weather in London looks lovely for a road trip - shame I'm not going on one.  sad

Have a great time all those converging on the Midlands for VATA's home turf gig at the Robin2 tonight.

I'll be thinking of you all and looking forward to catching up later in the week.

Re: VATA Tour

I was lucky enough to get to see these guys last night.  Well worth a 3000 mile plane ride and a very long and fun cab ride to the Black Country.

The talent that these kids have is amazing, their potential is scary.  Virgil plays the guitar like one possessed.  One of the best shows I have ever seen.  I have had their album Radium for months, and it has never been far from my cd player since I got it, and they played lots of goodies from it.  Highlights of the night were 88 and Silver Given (this song is haunting - Virgil's tribute to those who have inspired him) and Going Down (played with Mitch Laddie sitting in).

Great night - met some new friends and reconnected with some old ones.  And this whole evening was made possible by the kindness and generosity of Pete the Cabby, Wooders and Maggie. Martin - you've got a winner.

I will have a few pictures to post eventually, but that will have to wait for a bit so I can get out and enjoy some of my already great vacation here across the pond.
