Re: Eric Clapton Signature model guitar amps

Whats funny is a Fender Twin and a Marshall Blues Breaker JTM 45 aren't much different.  Maybe you just hate strat sounds.  I liked his beano sounds, and his tones on the Cream studio stuff got better when Tom Dowd produced them.  Blind Faith sounded to me as good as any of his sounds up to that point.  Derek and the Dominos he became more focused on his playing then his tone, but his playing wasn't focused on being a virtuoso.  His solo 70's stuff is very clean and country.  His 80's sound with his signature model gets him as close to the Cream sound as he ever got in his solo stuff with the Soldano SLO100.  He used a bunch of amps and guitars on

correction, a Bassman and JTM45 aren't that different (I have a clone).  Twins are totally different animals and severely scooped in the mids.  hence the clean tone.  I love a lot of strat tones; Rory Gallagher, Robin Trower, Chris Duarte, Eric Johnson, SRV, Jeff Beck, Blackmore... anyhow, I just think that his early stuff is far better. It does not mean that I am right or wrong about anything, just a mater of opinion and personal taste.  BTW Allen amps are the way to go for the vintage Fender tone!

Re: Eric Clapton Signature model guitar amps

I didn't say you wrong, I was saying why I liked his sound.  Anyway what I was say was you take a cranked fender twin vs. a cranked marshall blues breaker and what do you get?  A big loud noise too loud for us mear mortals to play out with  tongue yeah the bassman is the amp they used for the JTM 45 but the circuits are still prett much the same.  Its 15 watt speakers, open back cabs and lowwer distortion tubes that make up all the difference.  I'll have to give Allen amps a look.  I don't play out at all right now so its not like I'd get any of these amps anyway, but it sure is fun to dream.

Re: Eric Clapton Signature model guitar amps

Cool offerings but I think one could get a vintage amp for what they will charge....and believe me....you cannot beat the sound of a vintage over a reproduction...at least not in my experience with amps in the < 20 watt range.
