I don't use a pedal to get gain. I prefer the natural tone of my amp. I use pedals to add new flavors/tone. Thats basically what JB does.
Just bought a Way Huge Pork Loin to try out. Love how it sounds on one of Joe's Youtube vids.
Wampler Pinnacle. Got it this week, and it sounds really great - anything from slight break-up to Superlead at boiling point.
Finally a pedal that sounds like an amp.
Oh man....can only pick one huh....I'm a dirt box junkie so this will be tough....
Hmmmmm..... I guess I'd have to go with my fulldrive 2 mosfet.
I don't always use a dirt pedal, but when I do it's the fulldrive 2 mosfet.... Keep practicing my friends.

hao od-16. this thing is incredible. too bad the youtube vids are all pretty high gain. i use it for a dark low to medium gain od or even like a tubescreamer and it's just outstanding. it reacts more like an amo than any other peal i've found and it's certainyl the cleanest pedal i've every used. there are zero artifacts in the tone. really nice.

Very tough one. So I shall give you 2.
For fuzz, the Pete Cornish P1, which is a very rare pedal (not the more freely available P2). It's based upon David Gilmour's favourite Triangle Big Muff without the noise and it rocks. Pete can only make them from NOS trannies as and when he can locate them and he's only built 45 of them so far. Real compressed fuzz. Listen to the live in Gdansk LP for the tone of it.
For JB sounds, the Paul Cochrane Timmy. it's truly as good as people say it is. Think of the best TS808 and best BK Butler Tube Driver you've ever heard and that's where it is. Sloe Gin intro is another good descriptor, and it's brilliant at stacking with a muff.
I'm using a modified danelectro FabTone. I bought this pedal cheap from a boot sale £5. found a mod on youtube and carried out the work myself, changed a capacitor and added anLED. its gone from being nearly unusable because of the massive feedback and overdrive to being the best pedal I have.
Just got a Zvex Box of Rock I'm playing through a Hot Rod Deville and a Tiny Terror. Lots of pedals claim to be touch sensitive and work dynamically with the amp. This one really delivers. You have to keep the gain lower (no more than about 1:00) or it can get a little processed-sounding, unless your in a Judas Priest cover band and then it's all good. But at about half gain it cleans up a the guitar and really does the Marshall thing with the guitar cranked.

Fulltone Fulldrive 2. Super versatile, sings, screams, can be sweet or nasty, but always sounds good. What I like is that it doesn't lop off the high frequency like a lot of cheaper ones I've tried, but isn't squeely or buzzy, either. It's a very pleasing tone to the ears, even when it's ripping your face off... if that makes sense. Very good frequency distribution I suppose. Whether with strat, tele or LP, I just love it. I'd definitely consider adding more to the pedalboard, but I don't see myself being without the FD2. Guitar -> Fulltone Fulldrive 2 -> Dr. Z MAZ 38 Studio Deluxe has been "my tone" for almost 10 years now. Might add some effects here or there, and I always change up the guitar, but the core of that chain - the Z and the FD2 - have remained constant because they work so darn well.
