Topic: BOJH ! TUNING

I love the BOJH it is such a great powerhouse track , the thing is i dont really dig the version joe is doing at the mo in the stanadard tuning as to the dropped c or b on the baritone jp musicman!   why has he stopped doing this on the baritone??
just my opinion , i still love the track !

Re: BOJH ! TUNING

I am guessing it is logistics... Pretty costly to carry around one extra guitar purely for one song, especially if he is travelling overseas...

Re: BOJH ! TUNING

When I saw Joe live in Cincinnati last March, I really liked the BOJH in standard tuning.  He and his band did some stuff with the dynamics and a break or two in the song that was outstanding.  I thought it kicked up the energy level of the song a notch or two. Plus I liked hearing that riff played with his Les Paul tone.  But I also like the studio version in dropped tuning.  It is a killer riff.

Re: BOJH ! TUNING

yeah personally i also love it in standard tuning (Live)...just sounds really mean and gritty to me

Re: BOJH ! TUNING

Much prefer the standard tuning that he's playing live.  To each his own as they say

Re: BOJH ! TUNING

I much prefer the lower tuning, BUT the new arrangement and ending made me instantly forgeddabowdit...
Really cool evolution of the song. Love when things keep fresh.

Re: BOJH ! TUNING

Interesting thread this.  When I first heard the track I loved the dropped tuning - seemed to match the song perfectly and Joe's slide work on the RAH DVD performance was excellent IMO.

Now, having said that, I'm currently in the midst of a new rock-blues band start-up and one of the covers put forward for consideration was BOJH - but played at standard tuning.  I was wondering what that might sound like if Joe did it and low and behold this thread answers that question for me!  In summary I think it works both ways, but for differing reasons.
