Topic: Bought a JB Epiphone that is indeed legit, but no COA, help!

I purchased a JB Goldtop Epi from the original owner who got it from Musician's Friend here in Kansas City. I'm totally bummed though because though all the case candy, straplocks, poster, sticker and owners manual are there, he had lost the COA. Is there any way through Gibson/Epiphone to get one? There is NO doubt it legitimate in my mind, but I really wanted the certificate with Joe's real signature. If wasn't a deal breaker for me, because the guitar is AWESOME, but I really wanted that. The original owner said he has looked everywhere and doesn't know what he did with it. I'm completely bummed out.

I would be happy to take/send pics, whatever it takes to figure out a way to get one, but I'm guessing it's not an option?

Read through the registry sticky. Paperwork was  frequently omitted, defaced etc. If it is a nice one I wouldn't make that a deal breaker. Take it to the next tour event and have Joe sign it himself.  smile

To receive a duplicate COA from Gibson, you must be the original purchaser (proof of purchase required) and will need to send the guitar to our facilities to be physically authenticated. Do note that not all models include a COA and we are unable to replace COAs for certain models.

But seriously - no one ever asked Jimmy Page for the paperwork for his LP and I'm sure JB doesn't have the orginal case candy for either of his bursts - just enjoy your guitar and play it like you stole it!

It seems that Joe is also pretty good at signing his sigs at shows so you may well get a signature in person that way.

From what I've read on other threads it seems that the JB Epi's sold outside of the US didn't have a COA. The COA that came with my Epi is like a form letter that Joe had signed, nothing like the fancy little booklets that come with Gibsons. I wouldn't worry about it. Email Alexis to see if he can get you into a meet & greet at a show near you and have Joe sign the guitar itself. That's worth a lot more than the Epi COA!

Major Tom to ground control...

Euro Epi JB's certainly did come with a COA. I think it was the warranty card they were missing.

What The Fuzz ?!

Me personally, the guitar is there to be played. Enjoy it.

Music - ears - emotion put into a guitar. It's only a piece of paper.
