Topic: Palmer PDI-03 and Speaker Cable Length!

Joe, Folks, Fellow Travelers,

Just a note/question thingie.   Last week I took delivery on the Palmer PDI-03 speaker simulator.   I could tell you about all the other attempts at low volume tone greatness (I've been at it since high school and I'm in my 40s), but let's just say that this unit was to take the place of the custom, raised floor, dropped ceiling, mass loaded vinyl and mineral rock insulated amp room I built in the basement of my home.   Running my Egnater Renegade into a 4X12 cranked, my neighbors could STILL hear me play in the next house over WITH their sound proof windows closed.  Good thing they like my playing (sort of)....  Wifey said the forks were vibrating in the kitchen....

Anyhow, long story longer, Palmer arrived and I promptly plugged it into a 15 foot speaker cable..   Yeach!   Feedback, whistling, weird noise!  The more the gain, the worse it was.   Sam, from www.palmergear.com, helpfully suggested it might be my speaker cable....  which I ignored for a day (because, of course, I know everything <wink>).  Turns out, PDI-03 like SHORT cables...    Running it now with a 3 footer and it's AMAZING.  As an aside, the Egnater has a speaker sim out which sound alot like the 'mellow' setting (almost, maybe 85%) and so I can mix the Palmer with the Egnater direct, split stereo.   It's HUGE.   Soundclips to follow when I'm back in town - work has me traveling again.

Anyone else have similar results?   I noticed on one of Joe's UNBELIEVABLY COOL EYE OPENING EAR OPENING INTERVIEWS (THANK YOU JOE!) he has is PDI-03s racked behind his stacks....    If your reading this, did your tech notice similar cable length issues?

With Great Respect and Gratitude,

Peyton
