Topic: Django...Whats the Deal??

I am confused.
Joe recorded a song on You & Me entitled Django.
The song is highly influenced by Jeff Beck.
Is this song a tribute to gyspy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt?
Reinhardt had a tune called vous et moi, french for you & me, the name of Joe's record.
many on the forum refered to a song entitled "vous et moi" in setlists prior to the release of you and me.

is the song inspired by the gyspy jazz guitarist?
does the title of the album relate in anyway to the title of the tune?
if so, why does it sound like jeff beck?

Re: Django...Whats the Deal??

If I remember correctly, Django is a rendition of a Django Reinhardt song (maybe vous et moi? can't remember the name right now)... It is just a different arrangement of it... it is meant as a tribute to Django, but it does have some Jeff Beck Influence in it...

Hope this helps some

In the liner notes, it states that Django was inspired by Vous Et Moi

Yes and yes. I would guess because Joe is a Jeff Beck fan as well.

Re: Django...Whats the Deal??

I seem to remember from the Dutch radio interview Joe did about "You & Me," that the Caveman (Kevin Shirley) had Joe looking for a melody to do something kind of experimental that really said something rather than just rapid fire riffs.  He found the melody on a Django Reinhardt song "Vous et moi" but it was the violin melody, not lead guitar.  He took that melody and made it into "Django."

Just a note. There is a documentary about Django that is very good. Runs on Sundance Channel once in a while. I don't remember the name but it's an excellent show. I have a 22y/o nephew who loves Django and the Gypsy Kings.                   Cathy
