Re: Adele

It's a joke is what it is, sorry bracket I know you like her, but it's the whole 'real music' killing bullshit that manipulates her into  a position of selling 10 million copies that makes me spit nails. Her first album was atrocious, her second, well the production team were first class, enough said.
This is the whole real reason why real bands rarely get anywhere. Poeple will happily pay £40,£50,£60 to see this shite, while their local pub has more talent for £5 and is left struggling for punters. Really does get my goat.

Of course but them I am just bitter and twisted and I just don't get were the success comes from. That said, I wish her well and she should take all she can while she can.

Re: Adele

- she is not my taste, - too middle of the road but she is the taste of the masses, - not sure I entirely agree with the negativity against her here, - yes sure she is being manipulated as a brand by a lot of record company marketing people, but Adel as an individual is good at what she does; singing.

There are plenty more talentless so called singers out there who cannot sing live, and they are the ones that do not deserve their place....Because they are chosen on looks and marketability, - Adle (bless her) does not have the look, yet she has and continues to be successful largely I believe as a result of her voice.

Again not my taste by Duffy is another one with a good voice who has come through and appealed to a lot of people, - and when you get tracks like this one below (voice Mette Lindburg) being taken on National advertising campaigns perhaps real music is finding its way through?

Re: Adele

21 is the second studio album by English singer-songwriter Adele. Released on 21 January 2011 in the UK and most of Europe, and on 22 February 2011 in North America, the album was named after the age of the singer at the time of its production. While it shares the folk and Motown influences of her debut album 19, also named after the singer's age, 21 was further shaped by the American country and southern blues music Adele encountered during her 2008–09 North American tour. Her second album on the subject of a break-up, 21, like its predecessor, was composed in the aftermath of the singer's separation from an unnamed partner, and explores various themes of anger and revenge, heartbreak, self-examination, and forgiveness.
The majority of the album's production was handled by Grammy Award-winning American producer Rick Rubin, while additional producers included Jim Abbiss, Paul Epworth, Fraser T. Smith, Ryan Tedder and Dan Wilson. Attracting critical praise for its vintage authenticity, the lyrical depth of the songs, as well as Adele's vocal performance, the album was seen as an artistic improvement over her debut. Preceded by lead single "Rolling in the Deep", which became a worldwide number-one hit, 21 debuted atop the UK Albums Chart with first-week sales of 208,000 copies, and peaked at number one in over nineteen countries,[1] including Canada, Australia, Germany and Ireland. In the U.S., the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 352,000 copies in its first week.
Following a highly praised performance of the album's second single "Someone Like You", at the 2011 BRIT Awards, the album maintained its number one position in the UK for eleven consecutive weeks, and, as of July 2011, amassed eighteen total weeks at number one. The album has been certified 10-times platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), denoting domestic shipments in excess of three million units,[2] and in the U.S., topped the Billboard 200 for twelve non-consecutive weeks, shifting 3.5 million copies so far. A third single, "Set Fire to the Rain", attained success across several European territories. The success of 21 helped to revive sales of 19, which ascended to new chart peaks within the top three in the UK, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia, despite its release over three years ago.
21 set the Guinness World Records for the most consecutive weeks at number one (eleven), as well as the most total weeks at number one (eighteen) on the UK Albums Chart for an album by a female artist.[3][4][5] Ranked as the best-selling album of the year so far in both the UK and the U.S., 21 also became the all-time best selling digital album in both territories. As of September 2011, worldwide sales for the album is estimated at 10 million copies.[1][6]

When Adele gets round to recording album #3, i predict it will be hailed a failure, only because the bar(10 million worldwide sales .. so far!) has been raised sooo high about, 21.
It must have gone through Adele's mind.... 'How do i top this' ? My advise would be .... don't even try.
The knives are out already, sharpened, to cut a young extremely successful artist down to size.

Re: Adele

If real bands want to get anywhere, I would suggest writing music that 10 million people are willing to pay to hear. It's a business, and maybe many of these real bands just don't appeal to the masses. I don't think Adele selling 10 million albums has anything to do with the local pub bands not making it.
I don't own any Adele music, don't know the songs, but when I first heard one of the songs I thought it was an interesting song, with an interesting sounding singer, cool melody. Stands out from most of the crap, and sounded like a hit to me. I like everything I've heard so far, so it's not surprising she's successful. Much better than Brittney Spears, house music or rap garbage that passes as music nowadays.

Re: Adele

I honestly do not see the need to post about Adele on Joe's forum, it's hardly a similar style of music. Brack if you want to congratulate Adele on her success why not spend some of that eternal time that you do online and find if she's got a fan forum you can copy and paste your lifted but unsourced quotes from. Maybe now she's playing the RAH you might go and see her live, since you didn't go to see Joe live before he played there. I saw you commented on Pete's videos of Henrik Freischlader, did you actually go and see him, or just sit at home and wait for the youtube clips? Rather than collecting 4,500 more posts of nonsence why not get out there and support live music at a local level and maybe tell us about someone we've not heard about before?

Re: Adele

personally speaking I find this a very interesting debate, - or the one that has developed from the original subject....and find it interesting that some (me included) post on it from a position of uncertain information...James Blunt is still very successful, - was listening to a radio 2 interview last week, - he had just played a large Hyde Park gig and by the sound of it had been playing one hell of a lot of live shows around the world on a non stop tour....remind you of anybody? He is now trying to get away from the one man and his acoustic guitar to a more rock/electric sound... Again his music is bit middle of the road for me but he is an extremely good songwriter...Funny how some people cannot appreciate something if they do not like it!??

... and guys, no need to have a go at Brack, - this is a section called "other artists" FFS.

Agree with you Ken, the manufactured rap style sound (not music) is the one to look out for as it is so popular, but there again the teenagers only like it because us oldies don't!! - Look up Lil Wayne on YouTube to his wonderful live guitar playing... wink

Re: Adele

I found myself posting some comments on this thread in my 'Ian Parker' thread, which I guess was a bit daft really.

Anyway. Here's James Blunt getting out of acoustic one man thing, and there is Ian Parker going in the other direction. I know who I would rather hear and see, but can't deny Blunt's success. As with Adele, the radio has played it part in that. He seems to be HUGE here in Germany.

As for Adele, well as I have written elsewhere, I can dig it. As a singer I can appreciate what she does and I like it. It is still early in her career. If she endlessly churns out the same stuff then it won't last. But if she can maintain the quality and integrity of the songs - who knows?

Still think this girl knocks her into a cocked hat......

Well, yes he is, not my cup of tea, but has millions of fans and album sales around the world, and continues to have a successful career - good luck to him i say!

Here in the UK, we seem to DUMP on anything or anyone successful, or too successful - a very British disease I'm sad to say!   sad

Re: Adele

Just because one sells out the RAH doesn't mean it's done on talent, JLS are selling out the O2 FFS. as for the comment about song writing, that's just the point. Their are many out there who have the ability and talent, but the machine wants people who can be manipulated and moulded. It leaves very little room for anyone else.
That said I have always treated the pop side if things seperately but it does bug me. The reason most if these people sell so many 'hits' is because they saturate the media, due to the huge budgets thrown at them.
Cannot say I don't like Adele, I just don't get what is so great. Still if the masses  take in the fodder put in front of them, they will scoff it up no matter what it is.
If it was down to talent, then it would very different. It's an age old debate but don't slam me for having opinions, that us what forums are all about.
I also treat the RAH has hollowed ground, I feel people should earn the right to be there. Joe for instance, worked his **** off and fully deserved that very special night.

I would love to hear what your criteria would be, if you were the director of Bookings - taking in consideration the place has to make a profit at the end of the day! lol

Re: Adele

Your totally missing my point Brack, plus the RAH is for hire, makes no difference to them If you fill it or not. It has had a few gigs with little or no audience, one guy famously booked it for night to sing his karaoke to an audience of friends and family. Which also made me cringe but it was listed as a 'private function'. Or did you think the RAH works on door share ?

Re: Adele

Anyone with the dosh of course, but that has no bearing on my opinions above. Money will nearly always win over credibility.
I just want to make sure you understand it's not Adele I am canning here (even though I don't get it and trust me I have tried), it's the machine, which has the capability of getting any old rubbish to number one time and time again. A few years back I was indeed involved in booking a UK venue larger than the RAH (not in charge but involved). It used to frustrate me then too.
I have said me my bit, its just going go around in circles now.

Re: Adele

Okay, back to Adele....

For those who don't get it .... never mind!

Both her albums have all been about the breakdown with her relationships with men, and the scars it leaves behind.... some of us can relate to that more than others.

The song - 'Turning Tables'  says a lot to me, and the powerful way she sings it, she is reliving what happened to her every time she sings.

Thats what i hear & get whenever i listen to Adele.
