Great video. Thanks for posting it.
I honestly found it to be a bit dry and not very informative. There are a few other vids on youtube where Eric goes into greater detail of his rig and equipment, but he is still the man, so any glimpse into his live equipment is cool!
I have read about his equipment and watched other videos of his equipment and I always enjoy them. One thing I found very interesting in this video, if I understood the video correctly, was the order of his effects on his lead tone. I think he said it was wah pedal, echoplex, tube driver, and then into the Marshall. I always thought the echoplex was after the tube driver.
I don't recall what he said about signal chain order but I remember Joe mentioning in an unrelated thread of Eric's "Ah Via Musicom" order having the echoplex before the tube driver so the order would be clean pedals before dirt pedals. I ran an MRX carbon copy before my fuzz and ts808 into the front of a breaking up marshall with nice results. Though it still sounded fine after the OD pedals..
I also always wondered why he had his effects spaced out so far apart on his board. I'm glad he touched on the reasoning behind it being so that they didn't cause any additional noise by being too close together. His board is just too messy for me, it would drive me nuts!
I have never tried a delay pedal in front of my overdrives. When I heard he put the echoplex first, it got my interest up to try an Xotic Effects EP Booster. I don't have an echoplex myself and the EP Booster is supposed to simulate the preamp of an echoplex. After watching this video I would like to try an EP Booster in front of my Butler Tube Driver to see if it can be another link in the quest to get the big violin tone.
That's waht I love about eric johnson.
Interviewer: What year is that Marshall from?
Eric Johnson: Yeah I think it's a 67 or 68 or 69 or something.
He doesen't exactly know what he uses, but he knows it sounds good!

isn't a big violin just a cello? get a cello man!
If I could get
If I could get "the tone" out of a cello I would give it a shot! It would probably be cheaper than all of the guitars, amps, and pedals I have bought!
