Somewhere in the archives I touted ol' Roy's mad skills....

There are talented musicians in all genres ( I had a hard time typing that, are there really any talented musicians that play Rap?)
Hee Haw was one of my Dad's favorite shows! My Dad passed away in June of this year, I have many fond memories of watching Hee Haw, Buck Owens and Roy Clark with him. He liked Chet Atkins as well. I'm pretty sure that Chet appeared on Hee Haw at least once. I'm not necessarily a fan of country but I can appreciate musicians who play because of a love for music versus those who are just after the $$$. I think that Roy, Buck and without a doubt Chet fall into the first category.
he was one of my dad's favorites also dc, as well as Chet. We watched Hee Haw every Sat night without fail, there wasn't a lot of good TV back then on Sat night. Roy also plays violin and banjo and who knows how many other instruments, very talented. Mostly it was just he and Buck and occasionally Grandpa would play a little, and they would have some special guests now and then. A scene remembered from siesta time in the barnyard:
Grandpa: Junior (Samples) I saw you out in the orchard today and you was holdin a pig up to the apple tree sos he could get one. Don't you know that's a waste of time?
Junior: Grandpa, what's time to a pig?
thanks Mike for the post.
Tres
Had to laugh at Junior, especially when that dumb act (?) was on 10!
Bee arrr feye ahv fower nighun is thuh number ta call!!!
We are in special strata of country "rockers" musicians discussing these fine folk. Roy was in an elite band known as The Million Dollar Band, which included Boots Randolph (comments also in the archives somewhere here), Jethro Burns (Homer & Jethro at the Country Club, ahhhh), Johnny Gimble, Charlie McCoy (also did a stint in Barefoot Jerry), and some guy named Chet someone might have already mentioned...
Back to Roy, incredible talent who has received many (all definitely) deserved rewards.
Another incredible talent you kids should all check out if you haven't is Glen Campbell...

Chet was more than a Nashville icon. My father too loved Chet, Roy and Hee Haw (me too!) and between wiping the tears of laughter would point out to me "there's a "real" guitarist (Roy), not that s**t you listen to." He even pointed his finger at me when he said it. Anyway back to Chet, I believe he's dueting with Mark Knopfler on this great song.

Here's another with Chet Atkins and Mark Knopfler.

Similer to Trey, my folks were Hee-Haw addicts back in the day and I sat and watched it every Saturday with them. Probably where my initial love of country music came from. My dad made the same comments as Curby's about guitar playing. Maybe I should change the name of this thread to Hee-Haw appreciation. Had the opportunity to meet Buck once a number of years back at his restaurant/club in Bakersfield (still there by the way and he has one of Elvis' caddillac's on mounted on the wall behind the bar). I was in town for work and stayed at the motel next to his restaurant/club. It was mid week and early evening so not too many folks around and Buck was walking around saying hello to the folks eating dinner. Anyway, nice guy, RIP Buck.
sorry, I can't help myself.
Junior: Grandpa, pray for me cause I'm sick.
Grandpa: Junior, yor not sick, yor are drunk.
Junior: but Grandpa, don't tell HIM I'm drunk, tell HIM I'm sick.

Yep, this was from the show "Crossroads" that CMT produces. I got this one on DVR. It's a very good episode. Keith is a very good player. I know he had a JBLP, but rumor is that it was damaged in floods that Nashville had. Don't really follow him so not sure if this is true or not
Someone mentioned stud picker??? Oh, yeah Roy Clark, Picker Deluxe!

I always thought it was comic genius to have the donkey grin saying "picking" and the happy plucker mugging "grinning"!
Roy is 81 now, I remember him as an incredible picker from his time on Hee Haw. He used to appear on the tonight show with Johnny Carson quite a lot. Classical, Country or whatever, Roy had some real chops.
