Topic: Joe and Fender combo's

Hey - newbie to the forum, so hope this is not a repeat topic.

I'm kind of hoping that Joe might care to comment on this, but hey feel free to pitch in!  smile

I have seen some U-tube clips of Joe using a Blues Deville type combo where he turns the amp around so it's back is facing out (i.e. what would be towards the audience) to limit the sound levels hitting the audience.  Of course he also uses his famous Clearsonic baffles too.

I use a Blues Deville 4x10" on stage, however I have 'installed' a vintage Tom Shulze Power Soak unit into the back (fits nice'n'snug behind the cab back-board) which I can alter to suit the venue.  I play mostly pubs/clubs in the UK, so for the most part I have it set optimally for those size venues, meaning I can have the volume/drive/master controls set to approximately half-way positions so I get a good combination of clean and gainy crunch sounds.  I then use the amp overdrive pedal in conjunction with a Fulltone Mosfet 2 OD which effectively gives me three OD 'step-up' options - particularly effective with the JB LP Studio.

Soooo - I wondered what Joe thought about power soaks/attenuators/power brakes?  Anyone else here use one?

Re: Joe and Fender combo's

I will be buying one soon.

I'm getting a Rivera Rock Crusher (new) for my 1998 Rivera 100 watt Knucklehead. It's way too loud, and there is a big difference in sound when I can get it past 3 on the master volume. I can barely get it past .5 right now  big_smile

Sold some stuff on eBay so I could get it. Once I get paid and ship them, I'm ordering it!

btw, I've used plexi glass sheets too, but that just breaks up the "beam" i.e. the bleeding ears in the front row get a break... turing the amp to face the wall does pretty much the same thing. I've seen people throw a blanket over the cabinet too... and sounds like.. well... "there's a blanket over the amp."  hmm
