I'm anxious to hear more as well. He's opening for Joe at the MN Zoo on Sept. 6.

Absolutely f'ing amazing. Saw him this past May when he played before Eric Sardinas at the Oklahoma Blues Festival.

Re: Monte Montgomery Anybody???

Monte is an Austin staple. He has several CD's out, but only his live show does it justice. We've promoted a couple of his shows and seen him live several times. He is very good.

Monte played the set just before Joe at the Lake Austin Blues Festival either last summer or the year before. Joe was doing an acoustic only set, so he invited Monte to sit in with him during his set. It was fireworks.

He's a don't miss live show. Plays his acoustic guitar through a Marshall amp and full pedal board sometimes. I have heard (but never seen) that during the encore he will sometimes actually rip the strings off his guitar. I think that was mentioned in his Guitar Player article from a couple years ago.

I'd recommend.

Re: Monte Montgomery Anybody???

When I heard Monte's stuff it reminded me of a friend from here in Benicia named Peppino D'Agostino who does a song Monte plays called Why Not. here's the link. http://youtube.com/watch?v=brmG6f2BMyw
Check him out.

(If this is the same guy Im thinking of) This guys plays at Mills Creek Blues in Appleton, Wisconsin.  I've seen him there. JB plays at Mills Creek sometimes as well.

He does like Eddie Van Halen stuff on an acoustic.  My opinion is, if he was playing an electric guitar, it would not be as spectacular - the main allure is doing it on an acoustic I guess.  He does do a killer version of Little Wing I've heard too. On a grading scale I'd give him a B. He knows his stuff and is a good time to watch...paint the walls buddy! My friend said he's like Jimmy Buffet on speed!  lol...
