Re: Peavy classic chorus 212 amp

I had the Peavey Classic 120 which had a phaser sound.  It was a hybird amp that had a solid state pre amp and a Power tube output.  From what I know of it the power amp side of it is really a gemick that they only supply enough voltage to the tubes to make them glow.   I swear in my amp I replaced the 6l6 tubes I had in it with groove tubes and it sounded worse.  The tubes that were in it I put in my hot rod deluxe and I swear it made that HRD sing.  So if it was a gemick or not I felt like it made a difference.

The preamp has a ton of distortion but if you get it too high it starts to sound cheesie.  One thing I can say is this amp is built like a tank and if you cut the gain down and the volume wide open it handles any pedal you can throw at it with ease.  I loved mine for that.  The Phaser on mine was crap, but the reverb was good and could switch off as well.  Bought mine for $350 which was too much but I liked it so I went with it.  Hope that helps.  Mine sold for about $200
