Topic: Irene!!

I know that there are an awful lot of forum-ites who live in areas likely to be affected over the coming 72 hours or so (thankfully, I am not one), so I thought it'd be useful to share reports and experiences. Y'all have had the earthquake, here comes the flood, pestilence is expected next week.  wink

Cathy would have been hit worse at home, but she's in Hunter, NY for Bluestock, which should miss the worst of it.

The very best of luck to those of you likely to be affected, stay smart, stay safe!

Re: Irene!!

Stay safe folks and head for high ground if flooding is expected. We made fun of your quake but this is no joke.

Latest predictions show Irene headed for New York - I hope Cathy brought her rain gear!

Stay safe everyone, and pray that Assateague is still there after all this 'cause I really need my vacation there in a couple of weeks.

Yes, and extra clothes and socks!  wink Luckily, she and her companions are in a condo that overlooks the back of the stage, so if things get really hairy, which is a distinct possibility, they won't have far to go to reach shelter.

The media is blowing harder than the hurricane so far.

I heard as cars of evacuees are moving out, cars of looters are moving in.  mad I sat through a number of these storms on Guam. Unless you are near the eye wall, not much except a lot of rain and a bit of breeze. Stay calm, head for higher ground if it rains enough to flood. Stay inside to avoid blowing debris, which is the most hazardous thing besides falling trees. Good luck to all of you out east.

Re: Irene!!

So happy to hear everyone survived the hurricane.  Those storms are really no joke.  You may think the media makes a lot out of them but people die in every single one of them.  Heeding the warnings is the best thing anyone can do.  Living through hurricanes is really scary.  I've been through enough of them to know.  Unfortunately it seems one of our street teamers (Jenni Stewart) lost her house in Maryland as she was preparing to move from Florida back to Maryland beginning next week.  I'm so glad they weren't there.

Take care Jenni.  I wish you and your family all the best.

Re: Irene!!

Such a stressful week, I had one curveball after another thrown at me all week.  We had so many things going on, including 2 parents in the hospital and soooooo much work...moving patio furniture, potted plants, etc. etc.  We didn't take on any water, but I was really scared, especially when the weather channel said there was a possible tornado in my town!  yikes

Sorry to hear about Jenni or anyone losing their home or incurring a lot of damage. After this pass week, I likely will never live in California  (earthquakes) or Florida  (hurricanes).  wink

Jim Cantore, from the Weather Channel, was pretty upset about the flooding in Vermont, places he knew & where he grew up. Sure, there is a lot hype with these storms, but you just can't mess with Mother Nature...a little turn in direction and lots of places would have ended up much worse, like NY City and Long Island.  Its always better to be safe.

I need a vacation from the Weather Channel!  roll
