Thanks for the vid...
OK.. the guitar arrived today from Japan. It took 4 days to get here! You can't ask for faster service. Shipping was $140. The guitar was packed very well and clearly marked that it was a guitar and should be handled with care.
I opened the box up and there shew was in all her glory. The nitrocellulose finish is amazing. Very shiny and deep. The guitar is an exact copy of a 59' Les Paul. Same neck, same fret size same everything. I took it out and first thing I noticed was that is was lighter than my other guitar which is a full thickness ESP LTD EC-1000T with no cutouts.
My LTD is equipped with Gibson Burstbucker Pro in the bridge position and a Burstbucker 1 in the neck position. It'a a fantastic guitar for any price. It's got a thin U neck and xtra jumbo frets. The Edwards LP-125 has a neck that's a little fatter and rounder, but nothing I would consider big. The frets are medium size which will take some getting used to since I've been playing on jumbo frets for a while. The rosewood fretboard is fairly flat and is noticeably high quality rosewood.
I did not like the strings that came with the guitar so the first thing I did was throw on my favortite set of D'Addario XL nickel plated .11 strings. The strings that came on the guitar felt like .09. Too small for my liking.
Unplugged this guitar sings. It's quite loud. Very sweet and melodic tone with good sustain. This guitar has a solid mahogany body with a solid carved maple cap with a beautiful book matched flamed maple veneer. Maybe the nitrocellulose finish has something to do with this as well. So far so good.
Plugged in the Legendary SD SH-55 neck and bridge pickups proved their worth. Classic Les Paul tone. I'm playing through a Line 6 Spider Jam. Imagine plugging into a nice Marshall! The Spider Jam isn't as bad as people say it is. It's good for its intended purpose. I adjusted the pickup height to my liking.
The guitars build quality and finish are flawless. Certainly master luthiers finished this guitar. Fret job is perfect. The intonation is perfect, and the truss rod set up properly. Action was dead on. I cant find anything to complain about. The bust finish is amazing.
For $1319 + $140 shipping I can't see any reason to spend more if you'd like a Les Paul style guitar unless your a professional musician. If you can deal with the Edwards name on the headstock instead of Gibson then you can save yourself a lot of money.
I purchased this guitar on e-Bay from Yasuo Togawa of Groovin Musical Instruments. eBay ID yasoohmusic1109.
Pics to follow....
Are you sure thats a Veneer? Because everything I've read about them in the last few days makes me think they are not veneers. I think they really are maple tops. Easy way to find out is pull the pickups out and look inside the pickup cavity if its a veneer you'll see a maple cap with the thin veneer sitting right on top like a line. If you can't see that line odds are you'll see tiger strips that are running through the maple cap. If thats a maple cap I'm going to start saving some money!

Yes I'm sure... Listed on the Edwards website under the description for "Body" for the LP125 is .....Thin laminated flame maple top/Solid maple/Solid Mahogany.
Yeah I just saw that right before I checked the forum.

Actually.... I just looked at the website again. And they changed it to Maple/Mahongany. Next time I change the strings I will check. That would be nice if it's a solid flame maple cap.
