Topic: Got A New Guitar... I am week and need Help!

I saw this Edwards L125 Limted Edition on eBay. I put it on my watch list... what's the harm in that right? Well there is a lot of harm in that to my wallet apparently. I couldn't bare the thought of someone else getting this. I heard nothing but good things about Edwards and the price of a Gibson of this build quality and finish would run me about $3500 or more. It's got a 100% nitro finish, oil/paper capacitors, SD SH 55 pickups. It will be here next week! I need to fins a place to hide this from the wife!

Gorgeous guitar!

Re: Got A New Guitar... I am week and need Help!

Nice geetar ya got there. The Edwards line has lightweight Mahogany which should make this one good for your back!

Thanks guys!

Is the mahogany light? I know it's full thickness and has no weight reduction. The specs said it weight 7.92 lbs. Is that light? I thought most 59' Les Pauls were in the 8-9# range I was hoping for a heavyweight with massive sustain and resonance. I have a full thickness ESP EC-1000T with no cutouts and unplugged the guitar is resonant and melodic and sweet sounding. I was hoping the Edwards would better that. Keeping fingers crossed.

The Cherry burst on that guitar is crazy!

Re: Got A New Guitar... I am week and need Help!

7.92 is light for a LP guitar. Heavier don't always equate to more sustain or tone. Make sure that you have a lightweight tailpiece and steel studs.

What's the advantage of a lightweight tailpiece and steel studs? I have seen some tailpieces made out of aluminum.

Congrats. I hope it plays as nice for you as it looks.

Thanks SgtB!

I did a little research and the 125 and the 130 come with aluminum stop bar tailpieces. What's the advantage of this over the steel ones?

Yes... the Edwars line is owned by ESP and only distributed in Japan and Russia. These guitars are illegal to sell here in the US but can be found on eBay.The wood is cut in China and the guitar is assembled at the ESP factory in Japan by their luthiers. From what I hear the Edwards guitars are what Gibson guitars used to be. The Edwars quality is said to be just below the Gibson USA custom shop guitars at 1/3 the price. This guitar with shipping was $1500. I'll let you know how it plays when I get it. But I have never read a report where anyone was dis appointed.

ESP also sells a Navigator line of Les Pauls which is one step above Edwards.

Don't be fooled. The Japanese take great pride in their work. Looks like you have a beautiful guitar. The top is nicely matched!! I hope it plays and sounds as nice as it looks. Enjoy!!

I agree. Japanese guitars fetch top dollar. I have a MIJ Ibanez (they're a Japanese company) S5470 which costs $1500. Some of their cheaper guitars are made in Korea or Indonesia. The ESP main brand of guitars starts in the mid thousands. Takamine guitars are also very well respected with some of their acoustics costing $3000. If I had any doubt I never would have ordered it. But I guess some people think the only good guitars are made in the USA.

Re: Got A New Guitar... I am week and need Help!

Aw man! Now I want an Edwards Les Paul.  These guitars are sweet looking!  All of them on Ebay look great, the one in this post is no exception either.  I love the way your "Limited" has its top matching up its quite elegant.

Re: Got A New Guitar... I am week and need Help!

I own a Les Paul TV Special with p90s. The mahogany is really light. It's a different kind of mahogany (asian in origin) from what they use in Gibson. That makes it lighter.

Trust me, the guitar will ring. Mine has a good acoustic ring. You will also do your back and shoulder a favor in the long run with its light weight. You're getting quality gear there. I bought mine in Singapore btw.

I have held some Gibbys and although they sound good, the Edwards are just different. Not better not worse. They have a more hollow sound compared to the Gibbys that usually are darker. The Edwards seem to be closer to old Gibsons that have PAFs that are almost single coil like in brightness.

I just checked the tracking # and the guitar was shipped on the 23rd and it just arrived at JFK/NY today the 26th. Pretty fast shipping. I'm expecting it to get here Monday?!?! I'm like a kid at christmas (I'm 41yo).

Re: Got A New Guitar... I am week and need Help!

I'm like a kid in a candy store just waitting on you to tell us how the thing is.  I'm sure the pickups will be fine as they are Seymour duncans, and the craftsman ship like I said looks awesome.  I'm so Jellous right now its a sin!
