Re: The NFL - National Football League

yep Roy, he may just be plotting to skip the intro training and slide on in a little later. was watching a report yesterday, could have been Michael Smith, said he will believe it when it gets to the end of the season and Brett is still not around. We know he is king of waffle on this, it would not surprise me if that ankle gets to feeling a lot better in week 2 or 3. I have the utmost respect for the guy regardless of what he says or doesn't say. Many forget that he brought a severe underdog So Miss to Legion Field, Gene Stallings first game as coach, and beat Alabama. I was there and it was a hushed crowd after the game like you cannot believe.

Re: The NFL - National Football League

Agreed Tres, he did the same thing in Green Bay. When he first was stolen away from Atlanta and that was a steal, Green Bay was stuck in mediocrity. His drive and leadership changed many things. Of course, it didn't hurt that the Packers brought in a great leader like Reggie White too, but Favre had that something where you felt he could turn it around and win. He's still got the arm and of course, the experience. It would be nice to remember the good things that he did rather than the distractions that he has contributed to. If he could physically, he'd probably play until he's at least 50 years old. wink

You've got that right Roy. And you bet there would be someone willing to pay him to play too.
The morning rag had a bit that he had told players he was hanging it up, I will remain a skeptic. His aversion to pre season practice is well known. An old war horse and the bugle. Just can't keep him down.

On a lighter note, a fan reported seeing Sproles deck a a linebacker twice his size in practice with a hit. LOL There's an overachiever!

Re: The NFL - National Football League

I get in the car this morning, and the local sh*t station is playing Steely Dan's Do It Again. I said well they should have played Black Friday. What else can go wrong today?
Glen Coffee has announced he is retiring from the 49ers, no reason given yet. He is an Alabama draftee 2009, and suffered a pretty nasty concussion last year. I really wanted to see him do well in the NFL. I hate to see him go, wish him all the best of luck with whatever he undertakes.

Still no explanation out of 9ers camp. Quite a shock to SF fans. He just walked into Singletary's office Thur. and said I'm moving on from football.

I would guess that he was advised by the doc that Concussion Syndrome would be an issue.
Chargers started out nicely, throttling the Bears. Only preseason though.... means zip.

It may be pre season, but beating the Packers @ home is always a moral booster. Phil Dawson iced the victory for the Dawgs with a pair of 58 & 46 yard field goals inside the final 2 minutes last night. The Browns have a whole new look to their offense this year with Jake Delhomme, Seneca Wallace, & Colt McCoy @ QB and if that doesn't get the job done they can slip the versatile Josh Cribbs in at QB for some "wildcat" options. A defensive co-ordinators nightmare, seeing Wallace & Cribbs in the huddle with Delhomme or McCoy in there at the same time.

Re: The NFL - National Football League

Bringing this back up for the new 2011 season.

Which is good news, because there is a season.

It will be a little different this year because the players still need to get into football shape and football ready.
Will take a little longer to get into full speed this year.  But loving there will be a full season.  Some season-ending injuries already happened.  Hope all the teams make it through preseason with not too many injuries.   A lot of shifting players this year also.

Re: The NFL - National Football League

Here's an ironic sidebar to the Browns win over Green Bay Sat. night in Cleveland I just read on Yahoo news. During the lockout Mike Holmgren nor Pat Shurmur were allowed to converse with QB Colt McCoy. Colt was tutored by none other than Brett Favre @ Brett's home in Miss. as a payback to Holmgren for all Brett learned from him. McCoy was non-commital when asked if Favre was thinking of yet another comeback. "We didn't even go there" said McCoy.

Re: The NFL - National Football League

Saturday night fights @ Candlestick Park and oh, BTW, a football game broke out. Final tally, 2 shot, 1 beaten unconscious(all 3 hospitalized), dozens of fights(inside the park & outside in the lot), 22 arrests. The league and the SFPD are asking that Raider/Niner pre-season games be terminated. The Browns are coming to the Bay Area twice in 3 weeks in Oct. and I had entertained thoughts of going, but am rethinking that plan. Why spend a chunk of change to have a miserable time as well as tempting fate? If I do go it will be vs. the Raiders since they rarely sell out and their games are blacked out. It's pretty easy to bluff Raider fans though, in the past I just wear a black hoodie and a Cal cap and blend in. Maybe a trip to Tahoe would be money better spent and free drinks in the sports book as I view the game.

I know that pre season games don't mean jack s***, but the Skin's two games so far give me some hope that the season won't turn out to be as totally awful as I had feared.

Maybe.  roll

G Dawg, you're absolutely right, these games are workouts and I can't see any team going too far with Rex Grossman or John Beck @ QB. I'm rooting for Matt Gutierrez to snag the 3rd QB spot on the roster.

I always have a blast at the Raider Games. Some of the best tailgate around.  Just drooling thinking about that scrumptious BBQ and buffet.  Man "The Black Hole" is the best place I sat, really stand for a sporting event.

Oh how I luv my football season and my Raiders.  I can hear the crowd chanting now R-A-I-H-D-E-R-S.
I even have my Tooz Dog watching the games with me, that I won at a Raider Game.

LOL, Jdawg, you just let the "cat" out of the bag.  Never share your Cleveland "bluff" on the forum where it says football.  You know this Raider fan gonna read it.  But no worries, I'll protect you.  I will put so much Raider make-up on you they think you be playing for the team.  I will even do your hair.  All sparkly glittery Silver.

I don't want any bad things to happen at a football game.  It's should be fun with so much going on the field.  I watch every play.  I just love it.  Wish it was all year long.  Of course the players don't, because its so tough for just 1 game with injuries.  Those people starting all those fights ruin it for all the good fans and they aren't even fans.  Alcohol is not a good mixture.  But nothing you can really do about it.  Cause you can bring your own.  I hope things turn around for all the good fans and to continue the 49er/Raider games.  It's fun for the bay area, just like the A's and Giants.

Re: The NFL - National Football League

It just ain't the way it used to be and I don't see it changing much without a police state in place, and how much fun would that be???? I miss those Sundays in Oakland through the '70's when it was all fun, then they went to LA and it wasn't the same when they came back. It's not just Oakland, this modern day thug mentality is problematic everywhere. What's really sad is the fact that many fans are afraid to bring their kids to a game for fear of what they'll see going on in the stands.
