Paul, that's the Bill Withers track, For My Friend. It's got Joe stamped right the way through it.  wink

The track that closes the video is Don't Explain.

Thanks Phil, i wasn't 100% sure... For My Friend sounds like they really nailed it down!

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

The whole album is great. I can't wait til you all get to hear it.

Just read some great news on Beth's website:

Beth & Joe's single: record of the week!

Great news from the UK! BBC Radio 2 has chosen Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa's single "I'll Take Care Of You", from the forthcoming "Don't Explain", as record of the week, from August 20th. BBC Radio 2, is the UK's biggest radio station.

I'm very pleased to hear that as I picked that song as my standout song from what is a superb album. Joe's solo on that song is one of his best ever! smile

PS My interview with Beth Hart is in the next issue of Blues Matters magazine and she speaks so highly of the album and of Joe in general! smile

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

Another great review of the album:

http://www.markmcguigan.com/2011/08/16/ … t-explain/

Getting so excited to hear the entire thing!  wink

Excerpt:
"The album kicks off with the classic “Sinner’s Prayer” by Ray Charles and BB King, opening with Joe playing the main riff on slide guitar but when Beth Hart’s sultry blues vocals kicks in you know you are in for a treat!
Somehow I had never heard of Beth Hart before this, I don’t know why because her voice is truly sublime. Like a blend of Janis Joplin and Etta James, her voice ranges from jazzy soulful tones to full on raw anguished screams. You can really connect with the lyrics when a voice is this good.
Her voice perfectly suits the fantastic cover of Tom Wait’s “Chocolate Jesus” (an album highlight for me) and is out of this world on “I’d Rather Go Blind“. This classic is a favourite song of mine anyway, but the version on “Don’t Explain” is pretty special. Between Beth’s otherwordly vocals and Joe’s extended heartfelt guitar solo, it’s 8 mins of musical bliss.
I imagine many Joe Bonamassa fans will snap this album up, as usual his playing is fantastic, but this isn’t just a ‘guitarist’s’ album. Beth Hart’s exceptional vocal performances make this accessible to any music fans who love classic soul and blues.
It’s just sublime, so much so I’ve had it on constant repeat."

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

That song is frickin' AMAZING!! Absolutely loved that! Even my 17 y.o. Hip-hop, rap lovin' daughter liked it. She wants a copy of the disc when it comes out too. Can you say Grammy?

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

Album review excerpt:

"Beth’s voice is very raw as a rule, akin to Janis Joplin, Sass Jordan and similar vocalists of that ilk, but on this album there is also some hints of Erma Franklin and Etta James. Adding Joe’s unique guitar tone to the mix is nothing short of genius. It brings a whole new dimension to some already classic songs. This is something that just has to be heard to be appreciated, as there’s no way I can describe it well enough to do it justice.

Just looking at the track listing is enough to send shivers down the spine of any lover of blues/soul, but hearing them done so differently may not be to everyone’s taste. I am a huge fan of great cover versions, but they have to be done right. This album is 10 cover versions done exactly how cover versions should be done.

As you can see from the track listing there are some heavy hitters and taking them on was either very brave, or very stupid. The end result was only ever going to be simply brilliant, or horrendously bad.

Thankfully, it’s brilliant.

It’s a really interesting album to listen to, and impossible to pigeonhole anywhere. Of course some credit has to go to Caveman Kevin Shirley who is rapidly becoming THE producer that rock artists want to work on their albums. All in all, this an album of outstanding quality, and one of the most ambitious that I’ve heard in a long time. I doubt there are many other duos that could have gotten anywhere near to making this album work, let alone nail it. This is a tremendous achievement, and one that everyone involved with should be extremely proud of."

BETH HART ANNOUNCES UK CONCERTS TO FOLLOW RELEASE OF 'DON'T EXPLAIN' ALBUM & TICKETS

Thursday, 01 September 2011     Written by Jon Stickler

Following the September 26th release of Beth Hart’s 'Don’t Explain' album - a soul covers collaboration with guitarist Joe Bonamassa – she’ll perform two intimate UK concerts in November. The first date will be at The Flowerpot, Derby on Monday 28th November, followed by London Dingwalls on Tuesday 29th November.

Already a platinum selling solo artist across mainland Europe, Beth’s collaboration with Bonamassa on the Gil Scott-Heron classic, 'I’ll Take Care Of You', was recently BBC Radio 2’s “Record of the Week” and has since been added to the playlist; the 'Don’t Explain' album also recently reached #5 on the Amazon UK pre-order chart.

Compared vocally to the likes of Janis Joplin and Etta James, Beth Hart’s November UK concerts will showcase tracks from the new album, including a brilliant rendition of Tom Wait’s 'Chocolate Jesus', as well as songs from her back catalogue such as the emotionally moving 'LA Song'.

Produced by Kevin Shirley (John Hiatt, The Black Crowes, Black Country Communion), 'Don't Explain' combines Hart's raspy and soulful vocals against Bonamassa's signature guitar sound. The pair collaborate on a collection of hand-picked soul classics from the likes of Delaney & Bonnie, Billie Holiday, and Aretha Franklin.

Beth Hart UK Live Dates are as follows:

November 2011

Nov 28th – The Flowerpot, Derby
Nov 29th – Dingwalls, London

Beth Hart Tickets are on sale now.

I wonder if Joe will show up ?

Unless he's chartered an SST, no chance since he is on US tour then with dates on the 27th and 29th in the South.
