Re: Summer time events

Been to a lot of local music gigs over the summer. We're real lucky to have so many cites & towns with Community Concerts that run all through the summer especially Concord which puts on Tue. & Thur. evening shows, Tue. line ups are all blues bands. Pleasant Hill does every other Thur. Eve. & every other Sun. Eve. The economy is threatening the future of some of these, but you can see good live music for free on Tue., Thur., Fri., Sat., & Sun. on given weeks. My main events are actually comin' after Labor Day, Lynyrd Skynyrd 9/22 @ Thunder Valley Casino in their outdoor Ampitheater and The BR Cohn Charity Concert 9/25 with Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Doobie Bros., Jim Messina, Little Feat, Leon Russell, Lara Johnston, & Carlos Reyes. Sure to be a fabulous day in the Olive Orchard/Vineyard @ the Cohn Estate.

Jeeze J Dawg! A wealth of good stuff up there and FREE! Not so sweet down at the bottom of Cali. Gotta pay some every time. Lets see... Tommy C. a while back, then Eric Johnson a few weeks ago. Coming up this week, Joe and friends Thurs. then Renegade Creation Fri. with a couple of good support acts, Buddy Guy next month. Not a slew but it'll do.  tongue

Re: Summer time events

It's been a busy summer so far, although not as much music as I'd like so far.
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Aaron Williams and the Hoodoo...but coming up in September: Anthony Gomes, John Hiatt, Big Head Todd; October:Joe Bonamassa; November: Sonny Landreth

"Rock ON & Keep the Faith"

Re: Summer time events

Missed way more acts than I saw this summer.I have seen some good unknown bands locally. But there still a few more weeks till the summer outdoor festival season is over here. The pickins in my area have been slim. As far as my musical tastes go.Could have caught Blue Oyster Cult, but could not go.

Tommy's playin' a free gig in Concord same night as Skynyrd 9/22, what's a music junkie to do. Good to know I've got a "Back up plan" as Tommy sings. Johnny Van Zant is in the hospital in Minn. with a serious staph infection. LS had to cancel about 2 weeks of their tour, but said they should resume by 8/19. We are spoiled rotten here in the Bay Area, lotta times you have to flip a coin to decide who to go see. So much music....soooo little time. Support local music where you live!!!

Has Anthony Gomes set up camp in St. Louis? Haven't heard much about him in awhile. Think I'll check his website.

^^^   big_smile   Yup, you got it.  For instance, this is the first I've been here since last Wednesday (a full week), and that's mostly because of my weekend shows... between spending a couple days getting stuff accomplished around here so I could go out and play all weekend, and then actually playing ALL weekend (Friday a somewhat local bar show, Saturday a private party 2 hours away all day & night & half the next day), and then doing a LOT of sleeping in the following days (much needed!), plus housework again... well let's just say this is the first I've had a chance to come back here!  Catching up on 4 pages of new posts now......  roll

So, I assume nobody was familiar with any of the lesser-knowns on my show list?

Ah, well they're some of the "better-knowns" on the list.  I have a photo of me & Donna in the greenroom at the River Street Jazz Cafe.  I've seen Jeff Mattson play in both her band and DSO... he's great.  By the way, her current keyboardist is the awesome Freeman White, who is from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area and plays/played keys in Mike Miz's Dead cover band Jam Stampede (along with some of the Zen Tricksters).  Also, I run into Donna's manager Steven at shows all the time (he's a taper).
