Topic: VOX AC30 CC2 (w/ Greenbacks)

JB COMMUNITY! I NEED YOUR HELP!

I've decided I would like to purchase a nice, new tube amp, and I've always been a big fan of that VOX tone. I don't know too much about the new CC2's (reliability, sound, etc.), so I figured I'd ask you folks for some input! I know I probably wouldn't be able to get much of a JB tone from the amp alone, but I'd probably be buying some pedals to through in front of it (absolutely LOVING the sound of these Wampler pedals I've been hearing about). Hopefully they could help me out with the tone a little more.

As I've said, I'm just looking for some input, maybe some pros and some cons. I've been debating on amps for the past little while, and I've come to a draw between the VOX AC30 CC2, and the new Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III. Of course, I'm leaning a little more towards the VOX due to preference (and for the 2x12 - I think it would fill the sound out a little bit more? Not sure, haha!)

I greatly appreciate any input from you guys!

Thanks,

Curtis

Re: VOX AC30 CC2 (w/ Greenbacks)

They are great amps.  Tones of Mid range. Beautiful reverb and great tremolo. I have the one that has the Green and Blue speaker in it and love it.

Here is an video I did of it the day after I got it.

NICE! You're getting some UNREAL tones out of that. I'm even more convinced to get after watching that. Out of your OD pedals, would there be one you'd prefer most? Say more that could definitely come close to a JB tone?

I appreciate your post. The video was great to watch. Nice playing, too!

Thanks.

I don't really prefer any its kinda a smorgasbord of tones at my feet.  The OCD is kinda like Joe's Strait Jubilee tone.  The Fulldrive is like when he kicks on his tube screamer.  The Sparkle is great for a boost and some country tones. And the RAT is the great high gain 80's tone used by dudes like Jeff Beck and Steve Stevens and many more.

I do demos of all those pedals individually on separate videos if that would help you in your quest.

I also love the wamplers and will likely pick out 3 or 4 within the year.

Re: VOX AC30 CC2 (w/ Greenbacks)

Thanks for the reply. As of now, I would LOVE to have the amp. However, based on some research and stuff (reviews), there's been a lot of people saying that the amp is known to break down a lot, and quick, and because of this, I keep wanting to go to the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III since I haven't heard or seen any bad reviews, especially for their reliability. Any input on this?

As I've said, I've come down between the AC30 CC2 and the Fender HRD III. I'm more into the indie-rock type of sound (Kings of Leon, The Kooks, Matthew Good), but I would also like to get a nice, JB-ish type of sound. I've read in previous forum posts where Joe himself has made some comments on the HRD III, and even suggested it. Not only that, but the HRD III is roughly $300 cheaper, brand-new.

Are there any recommendations or pros/cons of either of these amps that should make me sway towards one, and not the other? This would be my first tube amp, and I REAAAAAAAALLY don't know much - only from what I've read over the net and such.

Thanks

Re: VOX AC30 CC2 (w/ Greenbacks)

I had a AC30 CC2, and the AC15 CC2.  I loved them both.  They were great amps.  They sound killer, and they are built well.  I traded them on a AC15hw about a year ago and I am happy I did.  That amp is killer.  But I really miss the flexability of the Master Volume and the Effects loop.  Both being very nice for a gigging musician. Those CC Vox's are great amps and in my opinion will break down no more often than the Fender.

They are different amps for sure and are a great platform to get british type tones.  I mix my AC15hw with a Fender Vibrolux and I love the sounds I am getting.

If you love Vox tones get the Vox.  You will be disappointed with the fender if you crave Vox.

Just my opinion.
