Topic: Switching to acoustic...for a while at least

Yes, yes... I know I said you would have to pry my JB Les Paul from my cold, dead fingers but I recently got my Maton ECW80C professionally set up so I can actually play it without a lot of discomfort.  As a result, I have been finding it hard to put down now, and boy, playing acoustic has really highlighted a lot of my playing flaws.

I set myself the challenge yesterday to learn 'Yesterday', practice it and record it all within a 24 hours period.  So here is the recording I did yesterday:   big_smile

I've never recorded an acoustic before, so I would appreciate any tips from the pros on here on how to improve my playing and recording skills...

Sounds pretty good boss!  Only thing I would say when recording an acoustic, which doesn't apply to this piece but more so using the acoustic as a rhythm guitar with a full band, you want to hear more of the strumming than anything. (you're still going to hear the chords, don't worry)  When people try to eq an acoustic like a regular guitar it gets so muddy and ends up sounding awful.

Very nice. I liked it.

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Nice work Devan.

I've been doing a bit of acoustic guitar as well and have been working on Dear Prudence.

No way I can get it down in 24 hours though.  roll

Again, nice job!

If it is an a/e, try recording with a mic AND the pickup output at the same time. In your mix, pan one far left and the other far right. Move one track a cent back and the other a cent ahead, and take a listen. Gives great depth and sound to a single instrument.

Thanks for the great replies everyone.

Yes, I am going to look at getting another good mic so that I can have a couple of perspectives on the guitar sound.  Then all I will need is a soundproof studio...maybe I can convert my wife's art studio into my music room?? If I do, I know exactly where my mic will end up...  lol

It could be and art/music lounge?  After all they're both art forms right?  That would be cool.
