Topic: JB Fuzz Face question

Does anyone know if the JB FF works with a standard wah in front ? ( Guitar>wah>fuzz>amp)

Re: JB Fuzz Face question

No.... don't do that...  the FF needs to be before that.  Reverb, Overdrive, Fuzzface and then wah....  thats the winning combo for me.

Re: JB Fuzz Face question

so, your guitar cable in this case would plug into the reverb first? And the wah is the last thing in the chain that plugs into the amp?
I would think the opposite. I'm going to look at images of your pedal boards and check out if I can see the order.

Joe has said this a couple of times recently so either he has got the wrong end of the stick or yes he runs everything the otherway round to common guitar doctrine.

It's the Wah-fuzz positions that I was questioning rather than the rest. My current Hendrix fuzz face won't work with the Wah when it's placed after (guitar>Wah>fuzz>amp), and was wondering if the JB (got one on it's way!) fuzz face would be the same.
After joes reply I moved those two around, but haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Re: JB Fuzz Face question

I run my fuzz first in the chain of my effects...I don't know if that is the right way, but it sounds best to me...I run it through a Ceriatone Jubilee and a Fender Bandmaster Reverb.

I would think Joe runs his reverb in the effects loop. He rarely runs time-based pedals in front of the preamp.

Joe may be referring to how the pedals look from up top (gaze at your shoes). Which makes reverb overdrive fuzz wah the same things as what we see in pictures.

If I understand it correctly, the signal chain Joe is referring to is. Guitar plugged into wah then into the fuzz face then into an overdrive then into a reverb.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

That seems bizzare becasuse my understanding is Jimi plugged his guitar into the Wah first then Fuzz.

I have the JHFF so I will try it out - I haven't used both together yet.

Re: JB Fuzz Face question

Joe knows best, but tone may not work same with your gear/pedals in chain, etc one would think it could vary, but if Joe B. says, worth a try - very nice of him to chime in.

I don't have JB fuzz, I use Cusack Fuzz V2 and run my RMC8 Equalwhyzer Wah first then into Fuzz (actuall TU2 is in between).  I found with my set-up that my wah and fuzz play very nicely together or the way I want them to tonally, but wah is not as pronounced (not as wah sounding) when use wah with OD pedals which are after fuzz in chain....hmmm.

Skip to 1:30 on below link to hear my wah into my fuzz....this is the tone I desire - it doesn't cut your head off:

Re: JB Fuzz Face question

My understanding, from years of playing and observation is; Wah, Drives/Fuzz (Face), INFRONT of the amp; Reverb, and/or Delay through the FX loop. Works for me and many others. The Delay and/or Reverb have their own signal path and sound much better and the Delay is far easier to control than if it were infront.

I was thinking the same thing.

Re: JB Fuzz Face question

In one of the vids Joe talks about the front end of the pedal board being right next to the amp and I think this is why he talks about the fuzz being first.

Re: JB Fuzz Face question

I guess you could always just try it both ways and figure out which way you like better.  I find that most fuzzes I've used are better off on somebody elses pedal board.

Re: JB Fuzz Face question

Oh boy, I'm going to need to do some real experimentation now I've just got my JBFF!  I have been running all my FX through the FX loop including the (Vox) wah.  I only put an OD (Fulltone Fulldrive 2) in between my guitar and amp currently as I was tutored years ago to keep the signal between instrument and amp as simple as possible.  I was thinking of putting the FF in front of the OD - i.e. guitar>FF>OD>amp - I'll have some fun trying out the new routing though.  big_smile

Gibson LP '89 Custom * Gibson LP '04 Classic * Gibson JB LP Studio * Fender 50th Ann. Deluxe Strat * Gibson Explorer Pro * Epiphone Korina SG * Michael Kelly Patriot Premium * Ibanez 105NT Artcore Custom * Takamine acoustics * Fender Blues Deville 4x10" * Marshall DSL100 and DSL50 * Marshall 1960A * Laney LH55 * Bugera V55HD * Bugera 212VT * Marshall 1912 * Roland Cube 60

Re: JB Fuzz Face question

I'm finding that unless it's by itself, my JB wah doesn't play nice with other pedals... no matter where I put it. Will continue to experiment.

Re: JB Fuzz Face question

I have been thinking about getting a JB Fuzz Face but I wanted to know from all who use it what exactly they are using it for?  Are you using it for blues playing or more rock stuff?
