Hey Stu...Are you referring to Monty Python's "Matching Tie and Handkerchief" (I think that was the album name)?
I'm gonna dig through old vinyl tonight, I think I still have that one somewhere.

Re: Worn out grooves???

That was one of them! That was the album that one side played normally, while the other side had 2 parallel tracks/grooves and depending on how you set the stylus at the start you might hear one program or another.

....and now for something completely different lol

OK, I'm really going to date myself...Did anyone put pennies or a nickel  on top of the needle arm  & wrap a rubberband to hold it down when playing their 45's???? I'm guessing it skipped so it gave it weight.  My cousin Elisa and I wore the vinyl out on every Beatle 45...I've been mesmerized over Paul McCartney longer than any other man I've ever known or not known...  tongue  I'm looking forward to Paul's new album out today!

Oh yeah, I did that with my lp's put a quarter on top so that it would play better.

Once in awhile, I will play some records when in my pub.  They just have a nice feel and sound about them...

Geez Stu you just jogged some side splitting memories with The Firesign Theatre reference. I remember listening to their stuff on vinyl with a bunch of friends and just busting a gut. They made Cheech & Chong seem mundane. Don't forget, Porgey Tirebiter is a friend to you and me. Some vinyl I wore out was:

Anything Beatles, especially the double white
   Zep II
   Jimi Experineced & Ladyland
   All the Doors
Fleetwood Mac Kiln House & Future Games
   CSN
   Tommy
Grand Funk up till Rundgren took them top 40
Buckingham/Nicks reserved for hot date nights sort of my Johnny Mathis thing

                                                                                                                       J Dawg

Re: Worn out grooves???

Hey Andre-Cool list- Besides my siblings, I don't know anyone else that ever followed Caravan.  The Land of Grey and Pink was classic.  Also, I just bought tickets for Johnny and Edgar Winter and Rick Derringer, great seats up front and I just found out parents weekend at my son's college is scheduled for the same time. I'm so disappointed, have not seen these guys in years.  (Anyone in the Philly area that's interested in 2 tickets, e-mail me.  Sept.15 /Keswick Theater-Glenside, PA)

Re: Worn out grooves???

I agree Angela -Caravan's - In the land of grey and Pink is a classic. I'm 53 now but that LP, now CD of course, was the favourite of me and my first girlfriend when I was 18 years. We had a relationship for 3 years and everytime I play it. I think of here!
That's what music  does to me , it brings back memories from a certain periode of your life. Every love and periode has it's own songs. I like that very much.

I also try to see all artists I like live.
There are only a few I haven't seen but they died before I had the chance to see them- Hendrix, Doors and SRV.
Last year I saw Johnny Winter in Germany for the first time and I almost cried when I saw him at last. Very old, sitting on a chair but he played like a young god. After him came Joe!!! Wonderful day!
You must check out Little Axe, dark dub blues but fantastic. Give it a try, like Zappa , Little Feat with  Lowell George the more you listen the more you discover.
Stan Webb, guitarplayer from Chick and Chack English band in the seventies, live CD is really great, you must have the one that is recorded in Hamburg Germany , very good guitarblues. Don't know if it still is on sale, if not I can make you a copy. Just let me know.

I forgot on my list: Yes- Yesalbum
                            Supertramp-School
Steve Miller- Fly like an eagle.

Yes my Angela we in Holland, al least the older ones, do like and know what good music is!

Andre - I assume the Supertramp LP you meant was Crime of the Century? (that had the song School on it)....I love that album!

Re: Worn out grooves???

Vinyl...The only record I truly wore out was Zappa's "Live in New York". (The only CD I played to death was Beck's "Joe's Garage") So 2 copies of each. Andre, Little Feat "Waiting for Columbus", Oh Yeah! Others not yet mentioned ABB "Brothers and Sisters", Bad Company, Fairport Convention, Flo and Eddie "All Things Illegal, Immoral and Fattening", Garcia and Grissam(sp?)"Old and in the Way", The Band "The Last Waltz", NRBQ "Scraps", Ry Cooder "Bop Til Ya Drop", Eagles....,and now for the one that will evoke grimaces, the Bee Gee's "Saturdat Night Fever", it was great to clean house to is my only defense!  I took very good care of my records and this thread tempts me to raid the closet where they're stored! And, talk of coins on needles gives me shivers! The ritual Stu enjoyed was work to me! Bless the digital age!

Re: Worn out grooves???

Andre-I always associate Holland with beautiful spring bulbs, windmills, clogs and the blue and white Delft china...adding music lovers to the list.  Would like to visit someday..

Did you ever own Caravan's Waterloo Lily or For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night? There was a post on Joe's forum in the past about a mistake somewhere on the internet about Joe being in the Caravan lineup, which was funny because the recording was before 1977.

Cathy-recently gave my hubby The Last Waltz on DVD-it's excellent!!!
