Topic: Interested in doing a Goldie build

Hi Everyone,

I'm interested in doing a build since it's my favorite of all Joe's guitars both tonally and visually. I thought it would be kind of cool to create a thread that contains all of Goldie's characteristics. I'm pretty sure this is correct, but please feel free to add or correct me if I'm mistaken. smile

Pickups - Original Fender '64 pickups that were rewound by Lindy Fralin
Body - Fender Custom Shop '57
Body Finish - Gold boat flake nitrocellulose
Neck - original '64 in rosewood
Neck Finish - ???
Fretboard Radius - Assuming 9.5???
Bridge - Gold 6-point w/ gold vintage saddles
Input Jack - Gold
Tuners - Gold vintage-style (kluson?)
Pickguard - 3-ply White
Knobs - White
Backplate - N/A
Tremolo Springs - 3
Fretwire - ???

I think there is a thread or two of guys that have done this....You should try messaging them and see what they did.

This depends how close you wanna get. One thing you missed in your list was a black neck plate. I used a gold one.
Also on the 6pt bridge I used only the two outer screws.

Fender sells gold sparkle strats... you can manipulate that.
Mighty Mite makes replacement gold sparkle bodies and necks (that's what I used) only diff is the poly finish is not nitro. So it doesn't have as much voodoo in it. big deal.

To get everything exact to joe's actual one was a little ridiculous in cost to me, especially when I think a strat can only sound two or three ways (Texas, Vintage, or modern). I get a good vintage sound out of mine while paying a lot less.

That looks like its going to be a very nice build.  Are the pickups from a deluxe players strat?

yes.... it is a players deluxe.. i changed the body and pickguard.. great playing guitar.. i hope this wont change the way it plays too much...  i love the button switch so i had to glue a plastic block on the back of pickguard.. i still have alot to do before i can hear it but it is comein together nice.. the bridge is next.. will add pictures as i go..

I'm sure its going to be killer when its finished.  As long as the neck has the right tilt in it and the strings heights are set close to your old bodys settings it should play identical.  It seems like I change something on my strats every other week or so, so a neck change is no big deal.  We'll need some sound clips too if you get them.
