Topic: Yikes - Joe's #052 gets broken!?!

Just caught on FB that Joe's Les Paul #052 got broken in transit by British Airways!

Was #052 the same guitar that got damaged on his first trip to Australia last year?  Damn that is bad luck.

I wish the airlines would take more responsibility with luggage and cargo.  They lost my JBLP #129 when I flew down to Adelaide with it to see Joe a couple of months back.  I got it back after 24 hours (and after it had done a 3 city unaccompanied tour by itself), but the airlines say that they just will NOT insure or pay up for damages or losses for any valuable instruments like that.  Lucky that it came through undamaged!

I think it is a sad case when any industry who has a duty of care to transport passengers and good safely will abdicate their responsibility to take good care of said passengers and goods...

EDIT: Just realised it was Bonaburst #052 this time, and not Gold Top #052 which was the one damaged last year...

Re: Yikes - Joe's #052 gets broken!?!

'kin ridiculous, excuse my French! - These baggage handlers are doing it on purpose. Is it just me that thinks that a prerequisite of being employed as a baggage handler would be respect for other peoples possessions?

UPS or FedEx your guitars to wherever you're going wink
they insure, and it might cost just as much as checking the case at the airport!

Wow, just a travesty.  Hopefully it's not completed busted and can get repaired and still be usable.  Still appalling to have happen - not just once, but twice.

Argh.

Re: Yikes - Joe's #052 gets broken!?!

Joe states it was in a specially built flight case. That means (to me) it had to be removed from the flight case and intentionally broken.

Re: Yikes - Joe's #052 gets broken!?!

Must be a jinxed number. #52 Goldtop, now the burst. The Goldtop was repaired, looks nice and Joe plays it. I think it is the automated baggage machines. There is very little physical handling of bags once they are checked at the counter at major airports.

Re: Yikes - Joe's #052 gets broken!?!

Well,  The two 052 JB both Sunburst now black, and the Goldtop both will bare the same scars.   It seems like a doomed number.   The saddest thing is that I just had the guitar redone in black with real PAF's by Kim La Fluer at Historic Makeovers.   It was/is a killer guitar that was specially done for the Black Country Communion Tour.  I just cant believe it happen again with the exact same number and in a 1000 dollar flight case.
I cant really blame British Airways..  They just rent the spaces from the airports..  I do blame the baggage handlers and ground staff.   There is no excuse to treat other peoples belongings in such way.. You know how hard that case had to have been hit to do that.  Extremely hard..
Oh well my friend in London Phillippe is gonna repair it on Denmark street... Stop by pay it a visit LOL...  Thats why I fight so hard for the ol' 59...

I'm sure it would be unimaginable if it was the '59 they did this to. I commend you for still taking your best guitars on the road. Don't know if I could.

Re: Yikes - Joe's #052 gets broken!?!

Yes it's the airlines fault ...The  baggage handlers and staff.....It's just not right.

Jobs are hard to come by these days...if they are that lazy with a a don't care attitude, they should not be working for that company.

This Guitar flight case would have had to been dropped and run over by the baggage cart for this kind of damage to happen.....
( But  I still  think the Flight case would take the shock instead of the guitar )

I'm sorry it happened to # 52...

I would file a huge complaint with them...

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually.........

Re: Yikes - Joe's #052 gets broken!?!

Maybe an "admirer" from TGP works as a baggage handler for the airways.  -S

Re: Yikes - Joe's #052 gets broken!?!

Pathetic...Had to be intentional...

Re: Yikes - Joe's #052 gets broken!?!

I'm not saying it's the guitar case's fault... but
A $1000 guitar case should have some sort of guarantee, or some kind of quality measurement to show people how hard of a hit or fall it takes to break the guitar inside. That kind of piece of mind would go a long way! cool

Makes me not want to spend much for a guitar case... or have a guitar go on a plane.

Joe, like I said on Facebook - if you need JB-033 Sunburst I'll get it to you.

I just can't believe this has happened again.  What a great guitar and what a disappointment.
