Steve's 20th anniversary JEM that he used on "String Theories" and on the DVD "Where The Wild Things Are" is up for auction. Thought someone here might be interested. I would be except it's not a good time right now.

Build quality was low. Great neck. Annoying F.R.

My mother-in-law got me the WTWTA DVD for Christmas a couple years ago.  The first time I watched it, I had it on sort of in the background and I wasn't that into it.  Okay, Vai's up there doing his thing, there are two violinists, yada yada yada.  Then, a couple weeks later I sat down late at night, put on my studio headphones and really watched it.  Really listened.  THEN it completely blew me away.  It's one of the best concert DVDs I've ever seen - the band is amazing, and Vai is just an absolute master.  He's also a pretty nice guy.

A friend of mine has a JEM he bought from ibanezrules online and it's a great guitar (even better now that he had it refretted with stainless steel frets).  Build quality is all over the map, though, so like many guitars you have to make sure you get a good one.

Those particular Jem models are VERY heavy, but they light up which is cool.  I've had a standard white Jem for years and alongside all the other Ibanez Prestige guitars I've had and still have, it plays the best.  Just something about it, and the Evo pickups are amazing.  Vai is definitely on another level musically.  You either like him or you don't, like Zappa or Jethro Tull.
