The JB Fuzz is definitely smoother, more articulate, less distorted. Besides it's just plain freaking cooler. Period!
I agree is smoother and less gain. I read one comment on the Youtube page that said they could see the Joe B Fuzz being better for someone who wants to boost a signal that is already distorted, and thats exactly what Joes does! I thought both of them sounded a lot alike, but I think the real test will be when its put infront of a marshall thats turned up louder then Gearmanndude turns up for his videos. You know push the amp then turn the pedal on and see what both do. I'd bet money the standard fuzz face would feedback to the point where you'd have to turn it down to tame it were I think the Joe B fuzz would have more control due to the better componets and of course its cooler looking!
In front of a clean amp I must say the regular FF sounds much better to my ears. But that is not what JB uses his for, and though I don't prescribe to signature model things, JB's FF does sound great in his rig.
I love it all... "Bonamasser" cracks me up at the beginning.. Second of all.. It is not really a fair comparison. Jeorge and I designed ( Jeorge mostly) the JB Fuzzface to be a cleaner and more suited to a pre-overdriven signal. Thats why it works for me.. But to put into a clean Marshall at low volume is neither fair to the red nor copper fuzzface... Hendrix started with a slightly overdriven Marshall Superlead with a Stratocaster and a lo fi curly cable ect ect. So many variables it would need a book to go through. But, nonetheless we live in the youtube/ low volume world. It is our new reality. Nice demo though.. and the boots are stellar.. Dan Post I believe LOL

I agree with spider, more articulate works perfect with my Cat 5 and ev-12s
cheers Joe

They should do both at
I vote for the Bonafuzz!!
I agree with the consensus that the JBFF sounds better boosting an overdriven signal. I posted a demo of it going into my clean Marshall and I thought it sounded great, but I dig a creamy fuzz, not a splatter-spit type. Where this pedal really shines (for me) is at gig volumes with my DSL100 at around 5-6 with a tubescreamer. I could see why bedroom players may prefer the Red one - hey it's about personal taste they both sound killer to me. I played a gig last week and trust me, the JBFF driven by my P90 SG with a TS, Cantrell wah, and the DSL absolutley HOWLED (pig roast for 300 bikers - they LOVED it).
I have the Hendrix fuzz face so I would like to hear it compared with this.

Here is an older video using the standard vs the jimi hendrix fuzz face. Best I could do.
With this thread and all about the '59 Joe's just bought...all that runs through my head these days is this.

"when you need that extra push over the cliff..." Well...you hit the JB fuzz of course!
Well...it's one louder...

That is still one of the funniest in-jokes of all time - I have a mate at work and we use it regularly - people don't have a clue what we're on about.
So what is the difference spec-wise between the Hendrix Fuzz Face and the JB one?
Joe Bonamassa Fuzz face Specs
Hand-wired circuitry with matched NOS Russian military germanium transistors.
Features classic grey Cliff jacks and Omeg pots.
Housed in a polished copper finish that will patina over time.
Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face Specs
Meticulously faithful reproduction of Jimi's 1969-70 Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face.
Built around the toneful BC108 silicon transistor. Carefully matched to the original specs. Hand-wired.
Standard Fuzz Face Specs
Uses the original Germanium PNP transistor
Vintage specs
circuit board
Pulled all this off of www.JimDunlop.com Seems to me you would think that the Silicon transistors would have more gain on tap but the demos I've heard say otherwise. I wish I still had my Standard Fuzz Face because at the time I had it I was a bedroom guitar player. Even though I still do the majority of my playing in the Bed room I do go out and play. It would have been nice to try out both so I could have an opinion. So I will give you my opinion I had at the time which is "I sure do like this Big Muff USA pedal a lot more then this Fuzz face." But I wasn't playing out with that either.
