Congratulations to Rory! The media over here are calling his win "Majestic"
MCILROY'S US OPEN MILESTONES
Quickest to reach -10 (after 26 holes)
First to go lower than -12
First player to reach -17
Lowest 36-hole total of 131
Equals biggest 36-hole lead of six shots set by Tiger Woods in 2000
Lowest 54-hole total of 199
Lowest 72-hole total of 268
Rory's win yesterday was no less monumental than Tiger's at Augusta in '97. Look for the USGA to make course changes to ensure fewer birdies next year. It was really heartwarming to hear Americans cheering the young Irishman and unlike the grandstanding of Earl Woods Rory's Dad didn't try to hog the moment. This win was a real shot in the arm for golf and maybe now the sport can move past the tabloid Woods debacle.

You might be right...
Two Northern Irishmen champions in a row!! ... Is it something in the water ? Whatever it is.... it seems to be working!

We'll ship a couple of floozies along and take care of that!
I was really pleased to see Rory win this event. He's wise and humble beyond his years and I think he's great for the game, however, as U.S. Opens go, the course was much too easy. Traditionally this tournament is designed to have the champoin finish somewhere near even par. To have Rory at -16 plus 19 others finish below par does not bode well for the USGA. I think major changes will be coming for next year's event.
As to Rory being crowned the next heir apparent... I'll take a "wait and see" position on this. I absolutely believe he has the right mind set and one of the best, most consistant swings in the game today, but as for me, I'd like to see him after his 4th or 5th major title to see if his desire continues or if having a few hundred million in his bank account modifies his priorities.
Next test...23 days away at Royal St. George's. The Open is always one of my favourite tournaments to watch
14th July 2011
140th Open Championship at Royal St George's in Sandwich.
Yes,we're off and running!

Looks like a dismal start for both the Yanks and Rory. I like seeing Sergio doing well and know Seve is in his thoughts. He's the guy I'm pulling for.
My favorite tournament of the year! You just never know what's going to happen..the humps, the bumps, the weather and all played mostly on tree-less courses near the sea. Truly, the way God wanted Golf to be played!
I'm pulling for our home State guy, Steve Stricker. Probably one of the nicest guys on tour. He owns a cottage on one of the lakes on a chain where we go to vacation at. He's around fairly often there to fish for muskies. A few of the guys I know up there know him and one guides for him when he hunts for the big fish. They all say the same thing; unassuming, down to Earth, respectful and humble gentleman. And they all say if you didn't know who he was, you would never know. Got to pull for that sort of fellow.
Roy
I'm also wanting Stricker to do well. Wouldn't mind if Rory won either.
Rory & Steve both on +2 at the moment....
I'ts been raining and the forecast is for more!
It's a tough one to call this year!
Too close to call. Anyone can pull out a miracle finish. Today the weather will determine who is luckiest to dodge the worst.

+1 on Stricker...one of the most well liked guys on the tour. Since I was in the wilderness for a week, I missed the US Open in its entirety. In fact, I forgot it even happened and just recently found out about Rory trouncing the field. Good for him! He seems like a really well balanced, down to earth young man and would be a very welcome ambassador for golf. Let's cut him some slack though...its human nature, but its way too early (and puts way too much pressure on him) to put the crown on his head before he's earned it.
Pity the poor men that had early tee times.
Rick
Just in case you missed it...here is Miguel Ángel Jiménez's warm up yesterday prior to playing the The Open. The man is a great golfer, but I know many of us will be asking the question, "My God, do I look like that when I warm up?

You've got to love golf with all of it's color!

P.S. Make sure your sound is on!

For those over the pond not in the know..., the commentary on the clip was our very own Peter Alliss ... a master in his own right!
Here comes Phil! Wow, after an eagle on #7, he's 5 under for the day, 5 under for the tournament and tied for the lead!
