Re: Anyone for Golf ?

What a fantastic finish to the Masters.  I feel for Rory, but hey, he's young and will have many more opportunities.  As was mentioned on ESPN radio this morning, Rory's collapse is a sign of his age while Greg Norman's collaps a few years ago was a sign of his character.

Anyway, congrats to Charl, fantastic 4 birdie finish to win which has never been done before.  Increadible mental toughness to do that in light of the pressure of the situation.

Glad to see TW getting some fire back in his gut.  The putter let him down this week.  Time will tell if his head is in the right place to get back on top.

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

Rory will have a great career. His interview spoke volumes as he said it would be a character building lesson. Definitely an epic Masters. There are a lot of young Tiger clones out there now. The days of out of shape pros are gone.

A bit. McIlroy's been hot but still time for things to happen. I'm sure Augusta is in the back of his mind...

Yes, i've been hearing about Rory, and how well he's doing at the moment.
He needs to get over his  Augusta disappointment. This would be a great opportunity for him.

I'd like to see Rory silence the critics and win the Open this Father's Day.  He's a humble lad and is good for the game.  His second shot yesterday on eighteen though gives me pause -   instead of laying up he went for the miracle shot that cost him a double.  It's bad decisions like that that'll eventually bring him back to the field.

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

JMHO...Everyone keeps talking about Rory and says how great he is. Reminds me of the same thing when Tiger Woods was so dominant. However, the "Major" difference is that Tiger closed out tournaments and left no doubt who the winner was, Rory has yet to win something very big. I say give the young lad a chance and focus on some of the other great players who are hanging in there on a very difficult course. Rory will secure his victories, if not at this years U.S. Open then sometime down the road.

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

I keep my eye on the Irish kid every week. He's more than just an up & comer by now, but he's only half way home at this point with a lot of good players behind him. I'm pullin' for him to go the distance, after all he's Irish & his name is Rory, gotta be a winner. Wonder if he plays guitar at all?

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

I'm pulling for the kid too. I hope he can keep it together mentally. Lefty had some words to say about that. The most difficult thing is to NOT visualize lifting the trophy with a big lead and two rounds to go. Therein lies the road to disaster.

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

Rory still out in the lead by a massive 8 shots after R3. All golf fans here pray he can go on and win with style. I will be glued to the TV later.

Just to clarify, not only is Rory Irish, he's Northern Irish.

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

He should get there with a huge lead like that. He has no pressure now. Just a nice easy par round and no taking chances. The course is too tough for someone to make a run at that lead.

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

I don't see anybody, not Tiger...oops, a no show this week dummy, not Lefty, not Ian, nor Jack, Ben or Bobby Jones catching the young Irishman.  There won't be a collapse this time.  As a matter of fact the real interest today is what his strategy will be this afternoon.  Does he play it safe goining for pars or will he continue to attack the course like Tiger did in '97 and 2000?  I think the latter.  Winning in this fashion is chapter one in what'll become a legend.

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

True Curby. He could set a mark that would stand for years.

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

I think he should play it safe and go with pars, the greens will be harder and faster and the pins will be tucked in Sunday positions, ruffs will be the deepest they have seen all week, fairways and greens.

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

Well, we're now on the back nine of the tournament and a quote from the late, great Bobby Jones comes to mind. Of Jack Nicklaus he once said, "''He plays a game with which I am not familiar." And like Jack, Rory is playing the same way. Yes, he is the real deal and I look forward to watching him time and again win tournaments, some being majors. cool

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

A hole to go and an 8 stroke lead. Done deal. The kid was unconcious today. I won't see the finish but it is over. Amazing golf.

Great playing down the stretch. He'll win many more majors.
