Topic: BCC @ The Depot in SLC 06/11/11 - Videos Added!!!

From the 23,000 seat O2 arena in London to the Depot in SLC, UT with a max capacity of 1,200 people standing a foot from the stage - part of what makes Joe/BCC cool.

Joe - in the spirit of true Blues/Rock - Let's get some of this going on:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33Jaodra7AY

My biggest question is if Joe brings the full rig of multiple 100 watters, is the 1/4" of plexi glass going to be enough to save us from sonic destruction?

Am I going to make it out of there alive - or should I tell my wife I'm not coming home?

Okay, I'm a bit excited. Haven't been to a "I can't believe I'm going to this" concert since EC's "One More Car, One More Rider" several years ago.

Missed Slash @ The Depot in March. Missed Jeff Beck @ The Depot in May. I am unwilling to miss JB/BCC @ The Depot next Saturday Night.

Nick

BCC @ The Depot in SLC 06/11/11 - Videos Added

Showed up at 5 PM to get in line. Doors opened at 8 PM. Show started at 9 and went til 11. We were within the first 10 people in line and got spots "on the rail" directly in front of Joe. Shot some video but mostly just enjoyed.

Let it be known that I gave $125 and 7 hours of my life to Black Country Communion and they gave it right back 10 times over!

Here's a video of "Song of Yesterday"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80TpdV0fK9w

Here's one of the Encore (part of Man in the Middle and an amazing performance of Burn!)
Note: check Glenn's close up at 7:15! I thought he was might just stage dive us!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85EU6zQAkBE

Guitars included several LP's but I did not see any Goldtop Sig's. He used the flying V for Burn and pulled out the 1984 Triple Pickup Gibson Explorer he mentioned in another post. Couple of Ernie Ball's and something a kin to Les Paul but not a Gibby. It was black and looked like it could have been a Benedetto based on the on the headstock, but I'm not familiar with it.

Amps set up was two JCM 2000's and what looked like the "Black 88" Jubilee mentioned in other posts.

Spider, I noticed a lack of coverage right up front on the opening trio of songs where I was shooting from stage front very close. I think it is lack of house PA fill. Those Laneys of Glenn's reallly hammer you up front. (not that I'm complaining!) I had better audio when I took my seat just 8 feet further back. That stomping bass line just made for some excellent headbanging. wink
Great review mildbreakup. Now you too have had the great experience of hearing the band live. Stand by folks, they're heading your way!

Re: BCC @ The Depot in SLC 06/11/11 - Videos Added!!!

Perhaps I was expecting more of the Bonamassa style of music.
Although Joe played his strings with the perfection we expect.
I was disappointed with the show.
It was mechanical and predictable.
More on the lines of the top 100 radio stations we hear everyday.
Driven by record labels promoting their latest production.
I don't tune into those because they lack the soul of true artists like Joe.
I expected the guitar singing Joe is famous for.
You know where the guitar tells the story and Joe accompanies the guitar with his sultry style and passion.
I missed that in the show.
After standing in line and waiting for three hours we left part way into the performance.
Joe is the Greatest in my book.
But this lacked the Joe I have come to admire.

Re: BCC @ The Depot in SLC 06/11/11 - Videos Added!!!

Sorry ixtlan, you should have done your homework. This is NOT Joe solo. Hard rock is his excursion to have fun with his excellent Rock Band, which he is just a part of. I knew there would be some who like the blues and hate to hear him play rock.

Re: BCC @ The Depot in SLC 06/11/11 - Videos Added!!!

I look forward to Joe coming back to SLC with his own style music.
I just wish they had mixed it up a bit.
The band as a whole for their style did a good job.
Some real greats in the mix.
I will always be a Joe Fan.
Dont get me wrong.
Next time I will do a bit more research like you say.
Joe should consider on a solo tour to perhaps visit the Dee Event center for a large crowd, or the Egyptian Theater in Ogden for a smaller venue I know he enjoys.
Joe is the best!!!

ixtlan you are a Joe B fan like all of us .
BCC is Joe Rock, an outlet to expand his playing in which all guitarists should do.
Joe Blues will be back soon. he's just havin a whole lotta fun on the side for the moment.

Right on Gaz, right on...but this is SERIOUS stuff that is not a side order, it is an entire entree of a four course spread, delivered from a very formidable menu from whence Joeseph the amazing techniconqueror can serve up from, whether it be baked, deep-fried, sautéed, grilled, boiled, flambéed, broiled or stewed...

Small stage Spider. They were packed pretty tight on it and the cab had to be sacrificed.

Re: BCC @ The Depot in SLC 06/11/11 - Videos Added!!!

Just made it back from Salt Lake and catching up. First trip to Utah beautiful state and really liked the town. The Union Train station that has been converted to the Depot is a great sounding room not sure if it was filled to capacity but it was close. People lined up for good spots early. Had some reserved tables around the perimeter and in the balcony but I chose to stand back by the FOH mixer.

The room sounded good and Joe's guitar tone was too. Didn't matter which guitar all sounded great. His vocals keep getting better and the BCC songs of his are really great changes of pace in the set and not to mention great songs that show off his vocals and playing. I know the Glenn fans that now know Joe liked what they heard.

I think the general consensus was whether you like Black Country or not they have a high energy show. I, like Ixtlan prefer the solo Joe but I sure was glad I got to see this. Derek is featured in a few parts of the show and Jason pretty much demands to be seen and heard. smile Glenn is full blown rock animation but it works. As some one who so wanted to hate this side project it makes me smile and is just good old rock and roll with Joe playin loud and proud. It is very classic rock oriented but unlike most old artists attempts at new music this is good.

Jim M a wannabe hater?! lol cool High energy show with sonic emphasis over past decades often beyond silly bombastic displays.  Let the musical talent as entertainment do the talking and convincing.
Let's drop the "side project" stigma:

Hey Jim, Thanks for posting more video! How was the sound on your side of the room? I've heard from a couple of people that all they could hear was bass on Glenn's side. Standing 20 feet away and directly in front of Joe's 3X100 watt heads a 2 4x12's... the guitar was definitely dominating the mix where I was standing, but that's the whole reason I showed up early and stood there!
