Topic: Suggest me an amp to pair with my Ceriatone Jubilee

So I want to go the route of Joe and pair an amp with my Jubilee...

The two amps I have been looking at are a 1960's Fender Bandmaster and the Jet City 50H

I would say my budget is like 7-800 tops....

Out of those two what would you pick?

Or is there a better option that I'm overlooking...

Re: Suggest me an amp to pair with my Ceriatone Jubilee

Joe uses his other amps to get different types of tones to go with his Jubilee.

The Cat5 is a Super Lead with a Midboost that gets him into that ZZ Top territory.

The Carol Ann and Van Weelden are different flavors of Dumble to give him articulate chording choices and high gain leads.

You may want to balance the tone of the Jubilee by getting an amp that hits the frequencies it doesn't accentuate. It's the V and reverse V EQ that Joe always talks about in his videos.

I think the Bandmaster would be a good choice between the two you mentioned. Why not go the extra mile and get a Ceriatone again but this time go for their Dumble clone?

Re: Suggest me an amp to pair with my Ceriatone Jubilee

The dumble clone would be ideal but I don't have the money for that now..

I figured the Fender plus like a tubescreamer in front of it could get me somewhat close.

definitely would get you in that territory. you may want to consider the pedal Robben Ford uses when he doesn't have his dumble: the Hermida Zen Drive (also used by Sonny Landreth)

there are also other choices for the dumble style pedal like the Ethos, Run-off Groove Umble, the Zenkudo/Dumkudo, Barber Small Fry, and a whole lot more.

Re: Suggest me an amp to pair with my Ceriatone Jubilee

Go with the Fender Blackface Bandmaster or even an older silverface Bandmaster.  These old Fenders love pedals,  I use a Wampler Ecstacy or  a Barber Small Fry in front of mine with a reverb pedal (Digitech Hardwire Reverb).  It will definitely get you in the Dumble voiced ball park. Also, these old Fender heads just keep going up in value so they are also a good investment.

Re: Suggest me an amp to pair with my Ceriatone Jubilee

Thanks for the quick and helpful suggestions!

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with the Bandmaster...I've been scouring ebay for a Ceriatone Dumble copy but there aren't any to be found..

Thanks guys, I know I can always rely on JB Forums for assistance.

Re: Suggest me an amp to pair with my Ceriatone Jubilee

Thats a no brainer for me..   Go with the Vintage Bandmaster if it is in good shape..  You will get a great tone from the pair.  The Fender with do the articulation and midrange while the Jubilee will do the high low and the gain.   It is essentially the role the Van Weelden plays in my set... Albeit a bit more complex in the mids..  But that set up sounds ace.

Other options in that category..

1968-70 Bandmaster Reverb...
1991-93 Sovtek Mig 50
1990's Peavy classic 50
1960's Fender Bassman head
1960's fender Tremolux Head

All those should be in the ballpark for the budget.

Well I'm sold! Thanks Joe!

Re: Suggest me an amp to pair with my Ceriatone Jubilee

I would also say the Bandmaster, for a nice change from the Jubilee tone.

The JCA may be a little similar.

Re: Suggest me an amp to pair with my Ceriatone Jubilee

Great now I have to get the Bassman out and retubed! Damn!  big_smile

Hi JBfan1
Ron Here
I say without a doubt a Carol Ann OD2. I have one paired up with a Cat 5 JB100 a Bogner esctacy and a Marshall slash AVD 100. If you have a Jubliee I say the Carol Ann would be really sweet. The Carol Ann  OD2 is an amazing amp I have the 100w with EL34's. This amp is extremely articulate clean and can also crank some incredibale sustain. Alan of Carol Ann is a really nice guy an takes extreme pride in his work. I have met him and a real striaght shooter. So unless you have big $$ for a Dumble look at the Carol Ann you can't go wrong. I am extremly happy with mine. It is above what you want to pay but you know my feeling is most of the time you get what you pay for.
Cheers happy shopping
Ron

I can vouch for these amps. I've had them in the past and they are awesome alone or paired. I've paired a Mig50 with a Mesa Triple Rectum-hinder, and it was awesome.

Re: Suggest me an amp to pair with my Ceriatone Jubilee

Big time agreement for the Sovtek Mig 50.  My Marshall petered out during sound check about a year ago and the guitar player in the band playing after us let me use his Sovtek Mig 50 (he said it was an early 90's).  As second chair in that band I was blowing the doors off the first chair's output.

Re: Suggest me an amp to pair with my Ceriatone Jubilee

Is there a place better than Ebay to find a Sovtek 50 Mig??

I'm not a big fan of using Ebay.

Re: Suggest me an amp to pair with my Ceriatone Jubilee

cash + your local craigslist.... or guitar center's used website.  Music go round website might too!

Re: Suggest me an amp to pair with my Ceriatone Jubilee

Well, I am going to check out a mid 60's Fender Bandmaster tomorrow...

Re: Suggest me an amp to pair with my Ceriatone Jubilee

Well I went to check out the amps today and I fell in love with a 1968 or 1969 Fender Silverface Bandmaster Reverb...

I'm picking it up either this weekend or sometime next week.
