Topic: Ideas for new pedal creation... want to help?

Hey everyone -

So having had success with producing (and now some selling) a blues breaker pedal clone, I'm currently looking at what other kinds of pedals I could put together. I'd like to come up with something that is different than what is currently out on the market today (and there is a lot out there). So, I'm not going to be doing "my version" of an 808, or anything like.

One idea that I've had since becoming a participator here, is to build a dual/overdrive BLEND pedal, to give a bedroom simulation to that JB/EJ-ballpark tone. Think of this: one pedal, signal is split, half gets marshall overdrive, the other half gets a dumble-like zendrive-ish overdrive. You can control and EQ each one separately, and then blend them together with a blend pot for stereo (or mono) output. So instead of stacking the gains, you are blending them, similar to a two-amp rig. Does that sound interesting to anyone?

What other kinds of pedals have you ever wished were in existence? I see so many other pedal-ers making the same stuff as everyone else. I'd like to come up with something unique.

Any input from Joe on this one?  big_smile

Thanks guys.

Wasatch

So basically like duct taping a ts808 and a hermida zendrive pedal together making one pedal with 2 totally drive flavors with a separate output for each side?  That might be cool, but will obviously only appeal to multi amp guys.   But I personally think making a pedal specifically designed for multi amp use is really cool...  Thats the point right?!

I like the look of your current bluesbreaker pedal and I think it would look good if it were about as wide as a FD2 (if possible) with 2 toggles and a couple knobs for eq for the OD and Dumble tones.  Keeping it plain adds to the custom flavor too.  -S

Re: Ideas for new pedal creation... want to help?

Thanks helrazr84.

That is the basic idea, yes. Except you wouldn't have to output it stereo to two amps. You could still output it mono, as the signal would be blended together as it goes out. This is different than stacking the gains obviously, and would produce a different sound. The pork loin does this to some degree - it lets you blend the clean signal with the "pork loined" signal if you will, so you get a very creative sound on the other end. Only one amp required.

If you have two amps, great, you can split the signal to both. If not, you still have to different sounds going into one amp. You could also split the signal out, and run one into a delay, and the other into a trem, and then put those two outputs back together again into one amp. So you have Dumble delay and Marshall trem blended together.

Thanks for the nice comments on the pedal. I went through quite a few "looks" to get one I liked. This new pedal I'm considering would be more like the size of a FD2, yes. A 1590D Hammond size, which is what it would require, since this would probably have 8 knobs.

Re: Ideas for new pedal creation... want to help?

This is a very intriguing idea...

I for one don't have the technological skills to build something like, but I would interested in seeing something like this made. I've never thought of something like this... Do it!!

Could you call it the JB Tone Blender?

Re: Ideas for new pedal creation... want to help?

I guess I COULD call it that... (and would love to!) Don't know that I WOULD though unless the man himself said "yea". I know he likes things with his name on it though...  Maybe the "Bona-Blender"?  big_smile

Wondering, if I did build it, would Joe check it out? I know he doesn't need it on stage - but maybe it could grace his living room during Law and Order?  cool

I definitely COULD make this. Just wondering what the market would be like for it. Anyone else sincerely interested in the idea?

If you build it...and it works as you described. People will be all over it!
I'm interested. smile

Hey I think you should make one and take it to a show and give it to Joe.  I really like the idea and sure it will only appeal to a certain group of people but so does any other pedal out there.  Can't please everyone!  There are how many different styles of guitars on the market and surely a bluesman wouldn't pick up a BC Rich but there are plenty of other players who would!

I'd be interested to see a draft and how it might look.  8 knobs seems like a lot though!  Are you thinking a tone, level, drive knob each side and 2 blend knobs?  Just curious, I think this idea of yours is pretty cool.  -S

Special Victims Unit?

It blows that Christopher Meloni is leaving....Worst news ever...

Re: Ideas for new pedal creation... want to help?

If it wasn't overly expensive, then I'd definitely be down. The gain should also be extremely adjustable....I love the sound of my Jubilee but it would be nice to kick on something so articulate sounding (your pedal...that's what I gathered) to add a bit of flavor.

Gosh guys... those sound a lot like pre-orders...  wink

Thanks for the feedback. Anyone else? Thoughts? Suggestions? Wants?

Re: Ideas for new pedal creation... want to help?

Sounds a good idea, I would have a gain knob for each "Type" of gain structure and also a knob for blending in some dry signal too.

If it looks cool and sounds cooler and isn't an arm and a leg to buy, yeah, I'd probably get one.

Re: Ideas for new pedal creation... want to help?

So, basically a 2 in 1, Jubilee and Zendrive? big_smile   Keep it under $400 and yes, tell me when mines' done!! cool  tongue

Contingent on finances of course, I would be all over this!

Guitars: 1974 LP Custom, 2013 R8
Amps: '88 JCM 800 w/ TV cab, Tone King Falcon

Re: Ideas for new pedal creation... want to help?

I always thought someone should make a Boost delay combo that you can activate both with one switch, run the clean boost in the front of an amp and be able to run the delay though a loop but have one switch to control both for leads.

Re: Ideas for new pedal creation... want to help?

Thanks everyone. I'll be doing some research on this, and try to keep the board updated as to the goings on.

I appreciate the feedback!

Re: Ideas for new pedal creation... want to help?

So, wasatch, where are ya at with this great idea you had?
