Topic: Chorus or Tremolo?

So I have a little gear money left after this amp fiasco. And while I don't need an OD pedal, and I already have a DD3, I'm thinking about the next pedal I should get to add to my tone.

I can pick up a used Boss CH-1 or TR-2 for around $50 bucks or so - I'd like to know which one you think would be more useful, if you could only have one. I'm not into the surfer tremolo, or the outer space chorus - it would just be for leads, to add some dimension.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Re: Chorus or Tremolo?

If you are using it for leads: Chorus, if for rhythm: trem.

Re: Chorus or Tremolo?

Obviously this ones gonna come down to you're preference but I have and use both but I don't even have the chorus in my rig anymore.  I find the trem to be something I just leave on and I like how it's not too prominent until I am the only one playing or we get quiet.  I've always had a chorus pedal of some kind and didn't really get the whole tremolo thing until I finally decided to get a Supatrem.  Now I couldn't care less for my chorus.  Plus it can go in front of the amp better I think anyway..  I think a chorus changes your sound more and a trem just adds to it.  I would say all in all a trem can be left on all night and go unnoticed until it needs to be, unlike a chorus which even set slow is a little more noticeable.  Thats just my opinion.  Good luck!  -S

+1 on the SupaTrem. Great pedal.

Re: Chorus or Tremolo?

For 50 bucks, pick up a used Danelectro Tuna Melt and a used Arion SCH-1/SCH-Z. That way you get both.

Don't be afraid of the plastic. It works well and sounds great. The Arion Chorus can't be beat. Just ask Mike Landau, Scott Henderson, Kirk Fletcher, Oz Noy, and a whole lot more pros. The tuna melt that I tried at the shop actually beat this uber expensive and shiny boutique pedal for tone. The boutique had more options and a nice enclosure but the tuna melt owned it tone wise.

Re: Chorus or Tremolo?

I have always used a chorus pedal and got hooked on the Analogman Chorus.  It adds a nice tight feel to the tone.  However, Helrazr84, your comment has me really considering a Supratrem as sometimes the chorus effect is simply a little too much.  But when I shut it off I miss the tightening, liquid effect it has on my tone.  Maybe the Supratrem would provide the same feel with less effect?

Yeah chorus is cool but there is a difference when it is turned off.  I find it just doesn't fit every song like a Supatrem, set sort of slow, will always work.  I would say a trem shines more when a note is held out or when you play softer with your fingers for example, or even rake slowly through a chord with your thumb, then it really adds some dimension only a trem can do.  If your volume is up all the way, you won't really hear it unless you have its level up pretty high but it sounds best as more of a subtlety.  You may not like it, who knows, but if you can try one for a while you just might see it's awesomness and buy it on the spot.

My vote is 80's metal with chorus on all the live long day!  cool

Well naturally if you're rockin' with dokken, a chorus pedal is a must!
