Topic: Joe's Gear (and other stuff) - Adelaide concert

I got the chance of a lifetime to meet Joe just after his soundcheck at "Her Majesty's Theatre" in Adelaide, South Australia on Friday May 27th 2011.

I was blown away by just how approachable Joe was, and how easily he interacted with the 5 of us gear heads that were there to meet him.  At times, it felt as if we were a bunch of friends just shooting the breeze around a pub counter.

Joe was immensely kind enough to sign my JBLP for me, and then he went one further by walking us across the stage and giving us a one on one tour of his gear - all his guitars that he brought across the pond for the tour, including his famous '59 Burst.

Apologies for theses poor quality, dark shots which were taken on my iPhone (no flash in a dark backstage area)

PS: I must also extend many thanks to Alexis for getting my name on the list for the meet and greet.  And to Warren on the day for being a good host and taking the photo of my son and I with Joe.

My JBLP #129, which Joe signed, and re-dubbed "#1 in Oz" on account of it being the first JB sig guitar in this country!

Thank you Joe, from the bottom of my heart for spending the time with us and talking so openly about your playing and your gear.  It was definitely worth flying 3000km across the country for, and it is indeed one of the things on my 'bucket list' that I can now cross off.

Joe is making sure that the blues is being carried forward to the next generation.  I know that he certainly inspired my young son to keep persevering with the guitar.  This is the first thing that my son wanted to do as soon as we returned to our hotel room...

What a great story! I recently met Joe in Toronto and had a similar experience (except for the stage and gear tour). Very approachable, far too humble - it felt like he was old friend. My 6 yr old son is a huge fan too, it seems Joe's influence will soon manifest itself in a whole new breed of guitarists.

What a fantastic story! A memory I'm sure you and your son will treasure for a long time.

I haven't had a chance to meet Joe yet, but I'm sure looking forward to it some day.

#1 in Oz is a great moniker for your JBLP Gold Top.

Wow.
