Topic: Vintage PAF's

Hey everyone.

I had a nice visit with Mr. David Brass over at Fretted Americana yesterday. He was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and pretty much let me run wild in his show room. He suggested that I try to get my hands on some vintage PAF's. I've searched eBay as well as Gbase. Any other ideas where I could find some? I am specifically looking for a gold bridge pu, and a set for a les paul.

Thanks!

Logan

Unless you can try them out first, or are buying from a VERY reliable source, purchasing a set can really be a shot in the dark. There as many if not more bad PAF's as there are good ones. Good luck!

Re: Vintage PAF's

Thanks for the advice! Maybe I'll just call David back when I get home... I don't think he'd steer me wrong in the wrong direction. If anyone is in the Los Angeles area, I highly recommend giving him a call and visiting his show room. Not very big at all, but his vintage collection is very impressive.

Re: Vintage PAF's

I would be VERY careful. I would absolutely trust Kim LaFleur with help making a PAF purchase. Just give him a call. He's got a wealth of knowledge about vintage instruments and parts.

Re: Vintage PAF's

Probably safer just buying replica ones. Bareknuckle or something. Given how hit and miss it could be otherwise. And well, modern technologies mean there is consistency with these things now.

I recommend J.M.Rolph

Re: Vintage PAF's

I heard the white bobbins are the most expensive.  They switched to white because they ran out of black, nobody would know because they had covers over them.  Then Clapton took his off and everybody wanted white because they thought they were hotter pickups.  Not really true but some white bobbins could be hot and some not.
