Topic: Happy Days! First JBLP down under?

smile  Hooray!  After nearly a year of pleading, bargaining, complaining, muttering and lurking, I am so happy to say that I finally managed to secure a deal on a JB Les Paul Gold Top that will be sent across from Arizona to Oz in short order...

Cannot wait to get it.  This is better than any Christmas for me.   big_smile

I only hope that it gets here in time for me to take to meet Joe before his Adelaide show on the 27th.  Would love him to check it out and give me his thoughts on it and play at least ONE riff on it.  cool

As far as I know, this will be the first JB sig guitar on Australian shores.  I would appreciate anybody letting me know if this is in fact the case...

Congratulations Devan! Pics or it didn't happen though big_smile

Is yours the Epi or the Gibson? I tried for an Epi but had no luck. I think we have no option but to import them ourselves from the U.S. as Gibson Australia are worse than useless.

Enjoy your new guitar.

Re: Happy Days! First JBLP down under?

Good for you.  I have close friends in town from Melbourne and I was thinking of asking them to mule one into Australia!  Congrats, you'll love it.....

Re: Happy Days! First JBLP down under?

Thanks guys!  It is the Gibson LP Gold Top.  #129.

I was nearly going to get a plane ticket to the US and scour the shops there to try and get one!!

Grey - you are correct in that the local Gibson resellers are not co-operative at all, and I think the problem goes all the way back to the Gibson USA marketing department.  I could not get the Epiphone LP, or the upcoming Studio LP at all.  We are last on the list, and if it gets sold out in the US and then Europe, we get nothing.  Even if we did, we would be paying a 100% premium over our US compadres.

In any case, all a moot point now, as mine is on the way.  Left AZ this morning, so I am hoping 2 weeks, which is the normal shipping time for guitars.  Leaving it a VERY slim margin for the 26th of May which is when I will be hopping on a plane to Adelaide to catch Joe's concert...

Re: Happy Days! First JBLP down under?

Congrats Devan

If it left Arizona this morning you should get it mid to late next week.
A friend of mine bought a LP Custom from Sam Ash Guitars and that only took 5 working days to arrive and clear customs.

With a strong Aussie dollar it's good hunting gear from the US big_smile

GUITARS - Les Paul R9 VOS Cherryburst, Les Paul Traditional, Fender Rory Gallagher Tribute Strat, Fender CS 40th Anniversary Strat.
AMPS - Ceriatone 50w ODS HRM, Ceriatone 30w Stray Cat
EFFECTS - TC Electronics GMajor, T Rex Spin Doctor, Univibe

1 Aus Dollar will get you approx. 1.08 US.

Keep in mind that fluctuates. Inflation is high in Australia. But the US dollar is in the $hitter.

Congratulations Devan!

Re: Happy Days! First JBLP down under?

Thanks again everyone...

AndreS - Spider is right, the US dollar is currently around 1.07 to our dollar at the moment.  Has been a wild ride these past few weeks though, and has been anything from 1.04 right up to 1.10!

And Nairbr is right - It has been so much fun gear hunting in the US at the moment.  Trying to make the most of it, although it is disappointing to see that so many people over there just don't want to ship internationally.  They perceive it as a higher risk to ship to another country rather than ship to the other side of their own country.  It's their choice, but I feel that they are missing out on opportunity.

Now if you will excuse me, I need to walk out to the gate for the 43rd time today to see if I can see the Australia Post van coming down the street...  big_smile

Wonderful.

Congratulations. I'd love to have one too to go with my new JB Fuzzface.!

Re: Happy Days! First JBLP down under?

I recently had a guitar shipped over from the US. I bought it on April the 11th and it arrived on Friday the 29th, and that was allowing for Paypal to clear, as well as Easter/ANZAC day in the middle. That was with USPS. Fingers crossed you will have it in plenty of time to get it signed by the man himself.
