Topic: Mini BCC rig (GAS talk)

Hey guys-

I've been listening to the new BCC track Outsider all day and it got me thinking about building a new "hard rock" rig. This is purely dream talk as I haven't even finished my main rig yet but here it goes... I was thinking maybe a JCM 800 2x12 combo paired with maybe a JCM 2000 2x12 combo. The 800 being for the balls, and the 2000 being for the gainier half. This is only a thought, but I feel like it could get you at least fairly close.  Thoughts?

Thanks!
Logan

Forgot to add: Based on this track alone... 2 may be better than 1. Can't get enough.

Block inlay Gibson ES-335, 50th anniversary American Strat, '61 RI White SG, '62 RI Relic Strat, Replica Korina Flying V, Gold Tone Paul Beard Resonator,  '58 Les Paul RI, American Highway 1 Fender Strat, Breedlove Acoustic, Stonetree Joe Bonamassa Custom, HIWATT Lead 100R, Reeves Custom 30.

I love this tone...
I don't know what he's playing, but I got real close with a Champion 600 and Bad Monkey.

Re: Mini BCC rig (GAS talk)

I love me some Pat Travers. I saw him play when i was probably 15 years old at Disney World of all places. Stuck around to meet him afterwards... Super nice guy too, from what I remember anyway. That was nearly 10 years ago. Most recently I had a chance to see him play new years eve this year with Rick Derringer, but no one in my group of friends wanted to go sad

Looks like he's using a Blackstar amp. They're pretty nice amps for the price.

Re: Mini BCC rig (GAS talk)

My buddy has the blackstar 5 watt. It is PERFECT for a bedroom amp. Great tone, and with the american/british voicing, you can do some really cool tone blending all in one small package.

Re: Mini BCC rig (GAS talk)

Yea I heard so too....They were actually the competition against my JCA20...I'm glad I got it though....I think I prefer the sound from my Champion 600 and Bad Monkey....its soo raw and crunchy....like original guns n roses.....perfect compliment to my bluesy sounding, rhythm crunch sound from my JCA.

If only I could find an amp like the Champ but bigger in terms of wattage.

I honestly think a clean amp and an overdrive pedal do a much better job of a lead tone now.

Hmm, I really like the Egnator Rebel 30's and 20's and Renegade's with all those cool doohickies....I prefer simpler amps though...lol

Re: Mini BCC rig (GAS talk)

Last year I bought an 84 jcm 800 50 watt. Unfortunately it came with 6550 tubes instead of the el-84's and I absolutely hated it. In fact, I sold it only a week after I got it. I was disappointed because I had played a 100w and was able to get a beautiful tone at not much louder than a speaking volume. I ended up getting a Hughes and kettner 20 w combo and it sounds great and it's very simple to operate. I still plan on getting another jcm 800 one of these days though. I'll use it to build my above mentioned rig smile.

I have both of those, but never get a tone like on the video.  What settings do you use on the BM and is there anything else in the chain? My 600 has upgraded tubes and speaker.

Stock Champion 600 and stock Bad Monkey, with Les Paul 498T bridge pickup, 500K pots and .22 cap.

Into the Low Input with volume around 9.

Bad Monkey:
Level:5
Low:7 (just after)
High:5
Gain:6

I tried with mine, but whenever i overdrive it, it seems to have a buzzy/rattly sound instead. Not very nice at all.
