Topic: Most Grammy Awards by a Female

I caught this info on the radio the other day and did a bit of research to see how many. The Female Artist with the most grammy awards on her shelf is Alison Krauss, one of my favorites. She's won 27 grammy's tying her for second place with Quincy Jones and 4 behind Georg Solti, the former conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra with 32(he won't be winning any more though). Seems everything she records be it solo, with Union Station, the Oh Brother soundtrack, or with Robert Plant is a winner. Union Station just released their latest, Paper Airplane, so 28 is probably on it's way.

Re: Most Grammy Awards by a Female

Hey dawg,

I remember reading about Alison's Grammy's last year, probably around Grammy time.  She has a beautiful voice!  I first heard of Alison when I went to see Bonnie Raiit in Atlantic City for the recording of Decades Rock Live by VH-1; Allison was a guest along with Nora Jones, Keb Mo, Ben Harper etc.  I immediately bought whatever CD Alison had out at the time with Union Station....I listened once and never again, real bluegrassy, not my cup of tea.  If you are interested, I can dig it out and mail it to you. smile  Alison has covered alot of turf with her music, she is very talented musician and I thought her work with Robert Plant was interesting.

Anyway, I just read this about the Grammy's.  http://www.philly.com/philly/insights/i … world.html

"The Grammys have been widely mocked - by this critic, among others - for being the most overly generous of awards. The Oscars give out 24 awards. This year's symbol of the just-about-anyone-can-win-a-Grammy syndrome is actress Tia Carrere of Wayne's World fame, who won the award for best Hawaiian music album in February.

So with award inflation a point of fact - in 1959, at the first ceremony, 28 Grammys were presented - you might think that the category culling would be widely applauded as a necessary step toward regaining relevancy.

Wrong.

Instead, the cutbacks have been widely derided. For one thing, they sidestep the Grammys' real credibility problem. And that is, in prime time the Grammys present awards like album of the year to either out-of-the-blue choices (like Herbie Hancock's River: The Joni Letters, which beat out Kanye West and Amy Winehouse in 2008), or high-selling but insubstantial acts (like country-pop trio Lady Antebellum, which took home five awards this year)."

Re: Most Grammy Awards by a Female

I found out as I researched the grammy leaders that starting next year the categories will be trimmed from 109 to 78. Can't believe that Bluegrass doesn't move you Angela, but I won't hold it against ya. I was drawn to it just like country music from listening to the Grateful Dead cover songs from both genres. I also love the sound of the mandolin, a key ingredient to a good Bluegrass tune. Could be in my blood too, my Dad was born in West Virginia.
