Topic: Geoff Whitehorn

Anyone listened to much of Geoff's stuff?  He's shared a stage with some pretty big names - Paul Rodgers and Eric Clapton among them. He's been the lead guitarist for Procol Harum since 1991. He replaced Paul Kossoff in Back Street Crawler when Kossoff died, and has worked with Bad Company, Kevin Ayers, Elkie Brooks, The Who, Roger Waters, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, Paul McCartney and Billy Ocean. One of the great unsung heroes - it's a mystery how he's managed to avoid superstardom!  JHS Vintage produced a signature guitar from 2008 until 2010, (I bought one) and that's pretty much all the recognition this superb British blues/rock guitarist has received.

Re: Geoff Whitehorn

Yeah, I could never understand why Paul Rodgers ditched Geoff and the others after the "Electric" album. He was top notch playing the Free songs. A gig to remember was the Cavern Club, Liverpool where the band were on fire and I spoke to Paul the next day when he was out and about.

Spoke to Geoff a few times when he was with PR (Paul called him Sir Geoffrey) and he is a proper gentleman. No airs and graces. Also saw him play as part of Roger Chapman's band.

Good shout.

Re: Geoff Whitehorn

I think his solo album was called 'Big in Dartford', which would sort of sum him up really.

I also saw him several times on his Paul Rodgers tours. Tremendous guitarist, great blueser too.

I love that 'Live at the Loreley' set with PR. 'Louisiana Blues' is a great standout track as is 'Be my Friend' where Geoff really wrings the thing.

His  name should also be on the under rated guitarists thread.

My fave on this CD is actually the lead break on 'Conquistador', but yes, just one of those sidemen who live by rep and don't seem to want or need the limelight.

I'm not quite sure what he is up to now.  But I thought I would post this here.  I can't say for sure this is him, because he is not posted in any credits, but to me it looks like it is him.  Paul Rodgers has been a longtime friend of the Mark and Brian show down in L.A.  One thing they do every year is there annual Christmas Show where they put together a stellar line-up of musicians.  You never know who else is going to show up, and I think that is Geoff playing with Paul. This was done Dec. 2010 so it is very recent. I think it may have been Paul that invited Geoff to this smile

You also might recognize a number of other people on stage.  But here is a killer version of "All Right Now" with the all-star band.  Paul is so fantastic at audience participation and it shows with how much the audience loves this song.  "I'm not talking bout tomorrow".  Brilliant Paul

Re: Geoff Whitehorn

TRC - the left handed guitar player does look like Geoff but it's not him.............let's just say their relationship took a dive after he was sacked 10 years ago.

This is the get together that persuaded Paul to ask Jason to join his UK tour band.

Re: Geoff Whitehorn

So sorry about that.  I didn't even notice he was left-handed and I myself am left-handed.  Thanks so much for pointing that out Kenny.  Sorry that is not him, and sorry to hear about what happened.  I know that Paul lives in Canada now and he wanted a band closer in that area.  Howard's band is from Seattle.

And yes, this is why Jason is on the current tour.  Jason was the drummer for Paul's Muddy Water Blue's album so they go back a ways.  And then of course you know the history with bad. co. and his dad's band.  Glad to hear the shows over there are stellar  smile

It's a measure of the man that the GW solo album I have a copy of is called 'Geoff Who?'
Always the sense of humour. And humility.
