I find it appropriate. 

Been watching the news today and find this burial at sea incredible; especially before the world has been given concrete evidence he's dead.  I guess those shooters from the grassy knoll and Josef Stalin are somehow involved, but hey, we're all sheep anyway.....right?

Guys, guys....listen up. Pete, we can't really get into the whole 9/11 thing here because it leads to controversy - suffice it to say that for all except the most head-in-the-sand conspiracy believers, OBL's connection to the events of 9/11 is beyond any reasonable doubt.

Curby - the burial/body thing - I think there can be no doubt that the order was to take him dead or alive, but preferably dead. There are multiple reasons that I can think of why this was the case, the most compelling being the sheer nightmare of where to incarcerate a live OBL, where to put him on trial, where to keep him after a trial while minimizing the liklihood of some of his buddies trying to break him out, or take hostages, etc. You catch my drift. Then, after he might have died in a western prison, where could he have been buried within 24 hours as Islamic rites require?

It also appears to be a fact, according to an academic who has studied Al-Q in depth and whom I saw talking on one of the news channels today, that one of OBL's many bodyguards was at all times charged with putting a bullet through his head if it ever looked like he was going to be captured. If this is indeed the case, it was only a question of 'whose bullet'.

I don't know (and nobody else does either, yet) whether the authorities made any efforts to find a country that would accept his body for burial, certainly within the necessary 24 hours. Even if they had found somewhere, there would have been a serious risk of turning his grave into a ghoulish attraction for both admirers and haters. Deep sixing him was by the far the most appealing option any way you look at it, imho. If they had kept the body for longer without burial, there would have been all sorts of complaints that the US was defiling Islamic law

We have had confirmation of a DNA match today, and I am sure that at least one photo will be made public in due course. Even then, some will claim that the photo could have been photoshopped.

Share your concern here Ian. I always disliked intensely the scenes of jubilation on Al-Jazeera by Arabs when a US or UN soldier/ citizen were killed or executed and yet here we are doing it to.

I understand of course, but by doing so we automatically cede the moral high ground (does that have any value these days - I don't know).

OBL publicly supported obscene acts of terror and encouraged them so a victory of sorts is won today, symbolically at least. Not wise to dance on his grave though - especially if he was buried at sea!

I hope the authorities involved ensure there is a complete censure of information. Lurid and explicit photos of his cadaver shouldn't be seen. Let the circumstances of his death and life die with him. His supporters will follow the myth anyway, but don't fan the flames of hate with unwise publicity.

This person in life wanted only to publicise and further his cause through the pain and suffering of others, don't let him do it in death.

Another thought that occured to me was whether anybody would collect the 27 million dollar bounty that was on his head. If not and this money was appropriated and sitting around why not distribute it amongst the 9/11 victims families to do with as they see fit.

I've thought on it and come to the feeling that he's just another swatted roach. Plenty more where he came from ready to step into his shoes and do the same to us. Nothing has changed except for maybe a feeling of satisfaction, if there can be such a thing, for the families and friends of the victims, and the military who have given all in the pursuit.

Latest reports are that the mission objective was not to take him alive. The team sent in was a "death squad". In regards to the celebrations, the strangest one that broke out was during the Phillies/Mets game. As word spread by messaging through the stands the crowd broke into a U-S-A chant and cheering while the players on the field were miffed as to what was happening.

Folks, I know there's been a lot of restraint with the posts here. No matter I think we're into politics and religion which we all know are non subjects here. With our friends and family traveling, and for their safety, I think it would be best that this thread be deleted completely. Moderators if you would please.
