I hope that this will help our country's resolve. We've had a rough run lately, it's good to hear some good news. I also hope it unites our country, and shows us that Democrat of Republican or Tea Party or Nazi or Anarchist (those last 2 were jokes) that we are AMERICAN. And we should be united as such.

My girlfriend and I were at a Rodney Crowell/James McMurtry show in Napa tonight and at the intermission we picked up one of James' CD's and as he was signing it his sound man/roadie says to me look @ this text my wife just sent and we read it and my first response was, what's the punch line? I thought it was a joke, but he assured me it wasn't, and as it sunk in I wondered what will the payback be? As Rockfarmer said, beware, especially if you're traveling abroad, but good riddance to a menace to society.

Cathy woke me up (by phone) around 5:30 am to tell me that Obama was about to speak....I drifted away again with a smile....at last, after 10 years, this sob has paid the ultimate price. A fantastic effort by those concerned, but I echo the fear of others that we can expect desperate acts of retribution as a result.

I was very happy hearing the news about Osama's death. He was an evil person to all people outside the arab world. Now that he's gone it's time for the U.S. to leave the region and allow Iraq and Afghanistan to sink or swim on their own. I seriously doubt democracy will be long lasting and wonder how Osama will be remembered by arabs. To us he's the devil personified, but to middle-easterners, who've seen many different crusaders, he's probably viewed closer to Davy Crockett than Adolph Hitler.

woke up to Planet Rock 7am news this morning (May day bank holiday so get a lie in) to hear this and think it great symbolic news, in that after the atrocities that his name has been linked to then he has been routed out and dealt with. Although not entirely convinced that the eye for eye approach is the best philosophy to live by, but equally understand that should have been taken prisoner that would have opened up a whole heap of problems.
It looks to have been a very well planed and executed raid, - I think that the Pakistani regime have a LOT of questions to answer: for him to be living where he was and in that compound I cannot believe the Pakistani authority did not know that he was there.
A raid lead by the CIA....? Nice one, - but covers off the issue of a military operation in Pakistan, - I wonder if the US helicopter that was hit was hit from fire from the Pakistani military base, and then scuttled? Interesting that the US forces do not trust the Pakistan military to leave it intact and come back to it latter?
Slightly concerned over the reported scenes of jubilation in New York and Washington, - understandable perhaps but I have a fear of reprisal attacks....and sincerely hope that the American public do not believe that the war with AQ is over...Extremists martyrs have a habit of coming back, or at least their names do.

I spent a couple years working in the south tower. On 9/11 I lost friends, a cousin, and another cousin who escaped but has had serious PTSD since. All our lives changed on that day whether we were there or not, knew someone there or not.
