Dave, no worries. The song was a bit unrehearsed, I think we ran through once, maybe twice before that point. I'm just saying he is a really good drummer, just still figuring out how he wants to approach that particular song.
Most live bands I hear on youtube have the drums sounding like a large ape banging away on - 'ow you say - trash cans with a couple of scaffolding poles. Your guy avoided that, with a good sound, and on that song he sounded like a good, competent drummer who's a bit bored, like he's not into the song. Which ties in with what you said about it being unrehearsed. Energy's the answer! The audience sounded a little lacklustre (or maybe just small!), but that's just one of the things you sometimes have to deal with, as you know. But when you're all really into the music and your crowd's really into what you're doing, you feed off each other and it starts to buzz. Keep going, I see potential.

I'll tell him you said that. He'll appreciate that. The audience was a bit small that night. The band that was supposed to be playing there that night canceled last minute, so we had to do it. We weren't really that ready, but considering that I think we did okay. The chemistry's there, but it just takes time. I think we'd practiced four times prior to that show.
Getting tossed into the fire is the best. Low expectations not a lot of nerves. Plus when you do originals, it's harder to get lots of people to come out.
My bands have been playing Detroit for about 3 years now, and the major bulk of our fans are only friends, family, and coworkers...guys in some other bands; it's really hard to branch out from there! Getting paid is another issue, but I'd take more fans over the pay any day!

LOL, yeah.... When I see people get up, I'm like - "aww that's too bad, I was just about to play the best and most awesome song I ever wrote." If they sit down, I'm like "well, I can't live up to that, but I hope you like it!"
