Topic: New Mother Nature

Call it global warming or the second half of a Burton Cummings song, either way Mother Nature is one moody beeatch.  For the second time in three years my city is filling sandbags and the storms that have parked their fat rearends over the Ohio Valley ain't going nowhere.  Tornado watches are batting .333 and all the displaced sugar ants are taking up residence in my house.
Rick..Jeff.., is the sun still out there?  For the coup de etat a solid black cat crossed the road in front of me yesterday and coulda swore it winked at me!

http://youtu.be/oqeSUAlI5uI  Not "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature", but a great song by TGW.  When I first heard it on the radio I thought it was Buffalo Springfield.

Re: New Mother Nature

Now that was a blast from the past. We have the normal spring weather going on now, mid 60's and fairly sunny. Bracing ourselves for the sun to disappear in the usual May murk and June gloom. Hopefully it ends in June. Last year was the summer with no summer as it held on until August! Stay near the cellar Curby when those twisters are in the area.

Already hotter than a jalapenos cootchie mid-day here.  Nights aren't bad.  But;  There has been rain intermittently...

I hear you Sniff, not much better in Southern Wisconsin either. Since getting back from the 85-90 degree sunny weather in Texas, I've had about two days it didn't rain here. It's raining now and has been very chilly. Gosh, an old man like me can't take this! wink

Re: New Mother Nature

Heading to Duluth, MN tomorrow for meetings with Engineering folks.  An old friend once told me that the coldest winter he ever spent was a summer in Duluth.

Re: New Mother Nature

My son, who lives in Indy, was just complaining that it's been raining for a week there. I sympathized, of course, but had to tell him that Amsterdam is today ejoying its eighth (and last) consecutive day of sun and 70+ (21c+) temperatures. Holland as a whole had the warmest Easter ever, resulting in more than 1.25m foreign tourists over the long weekend.

It sure is a strange old weather world.  roll

Earl and I are supposed to play Friday afternoon we'll see how that works out.
Rockfarmer you better pack some warm clothes I'm 50 miles south of Duluth and it's snowing already.

Re: New Mother Nature

Heading to northern Minnesota in a month or so...I see the ice is still holding onto the lakes up there. We cut right through Duluth on our way to Ely...always seems grey and overcast when we pass through, even in July and August!
That's easy weather compared to tornado alley! Be safe if you're in that path.

Re: New Mother Nature

I live smack dab in the middle of Tornado Alley and it has been quiet hear so far. Everything has shifted to the east for the moment. I feel for those affected by it but somewhat relieved we have missed out on the excitement. Still May is the the month most of our tornadic activity happens.

The jet stream seams to have shifted for the time being. Been a cool April here. I'm no meteorologist but some say el Nino is responsible. So I'm gonna blame it on our neighbors to the south and not CO2 but that's just me.

Re: New Mother Nature

our turn again, the alarm clock this morning was a tornado siren at 5:15. Lots of tree and roof damage, many are without power. We managed to make it into work, others cannot get here. 2 deaths were reported in St. Clair county to the east. My brother and my mother have trees down on their homes. and now we wait on round 2 today and hope for no further severe damage or loss of life. MN is indeed a reeeeal beaaatch.

Re: New Mother Nature

Like I said before been living in Tornado Alley my whole life but the the devastation in Alabama is worse than I have ever seen. A mile wide on the ground 100 + miles. We have never experienced that here. At least not in populated areas. The loss of life and property is unprecedented in the modern age of meteorology where early warning capabilities have improved so much.

Just been reading about how badly Alabama has been hit and how many deaths have occurred - unbelievable - hope that you and yours have all survived safely, Tres!

Re: New Mother Nature

Woke up to the snow plow going past my house, for gods sake it's the end of April. Thoughts and prayers going out to those in the south, hope everyone is safe.

Re: New Mother Nature

I don't know what to say. We are alive by the grace of God, but the damage and lives lost are much worse than anyone could have predicted. We didn't get much of anything in Hoover to the south of Birmingham, but we thought the monster that came out of Tuscaloosa was headed this way. It stayed to the north and completely obliterated Pleasant Grove to the northwest of Bham. It's just one of those outbreaks that will probably not happen for another 30 to 40 years, if then. They sent us home from work early yesterday, son and I were excited to be able to watch the SD-ATL day game. But you know, we never got to watch even a 1/2 inning for watching the storm coverage. It's really sad but we will dig out of it just as other states that have been devastated.

Re: New Mother Nature

in case you didn't see on the news this morning, this is why we didn't get to watch any baseball yesterday. The base of this thing makes it look more like a hurricane. you can see some transformers exploding in the distance. somehow it missed downtown Birmingham and stayed to the northwest. They are now calling this the longest lived tornado, and longest path tornado in US history, 300 miles later it finally ended somewhere in North Carolina. The death toll in Alabama is now 135+ and rising.
