Re: Hot rodded With Jimmy Page kit

I have push/pull pots on my black '72 LP Custom w/stock pickups. humbucker/single coil on the volumes and tones=inphase/out of phase

single coil tapped humbuckers have half the output... and get weak sounding. So I don't use it a lot if at all.
The phase thing is cool if you want a honky sound. but I rarely use that either... hmm

Re: Hot rodded With Jimmy Page kit

Dad's got a Les Paul Traditional pro that coil splits both humbuckers, its sounds pretty sweet.  My advice is get something that won't sound too thin but get something thats not so hot you split it and it sounds like nothing happened.  I think Pearly Gates would do great for what your talking about.  I think the 500T would be good too as I've tried them in the real Jimmy Page model from the 90's.  I would look for something between 8k to 15k output.  Anything higher will sound like a humbucker still, and anything lowwer will sound a bit too thin I think.

+1

My bridge pickup on my '72 is 9K, so I'd be lucky to get 4.5k when tapped... Most bridge single coils are around 6-6.25k when you're talking stock strat pickups.... so it's a little on the weak side for me.
