Introduced my German girlfriend to crumpets just recently. Of course had to mention the rather saucy connotations that the word 'crumpet' has. Wouldn't have been fair to keep hearing saying "would you like your crumpet now?", and then me cracking up like a 13 year old.

But crumpets. Yes, my daughter is flying in tomorrow with several packs (I hope) in her luggage. I love them toasted with oodles of butter and then cheddar cheese on top! Of course, it is cholesterol meltdown, but I tell myself that where I'm going treats may be few and far between so have 'em all now!

Yes, all we British Michaels trade on 'that' accent you know. Not to mention the banter :-

What ho Squiffy, Top hole. Bally Jerry pranged his kite right in the 'How's your father's'. Hairy blighter dickie birded, feathered back on his Sammy, took a waspie, flipped over on his Bettie Harper's and caught his can in the Bertie!

What? don't understand our banter (courtesy of Monty Python, of course)?

Shall I say it slower? What? slower banter?

I was told a story by an ex-boss - ex army on Royal Protection duties, back in the late 70's, involving a female member of our Royal Family.  Cutting a long story short.... in essence... while out on a "shoot" in the country, my ex-boss asked/advised this Royal member not to continue doing what she was doing .... (Sorry, can't say on here, but on safety grounds), much to her dislike, leveled her loaded shotgun at him and told him to ..... go forth and multiply! But she didn't put it so eloquently !

A second hand story, but I had no reason to disbelieve him.

An interesting item came up. The reason there is so much interest over here is related to back in the early 1900's when impoverished nobility in England began marrying daughters of the rich over here for an injection of cash via dowry in exchange for a touch of the old world passed on to America. They were called Money Princesses! They engendered much hatred over in the UK for snapping up all the eligible gentry from the Englishwomen. They dragged their dukes and barons back over here and were all the social rage.
