Re: category 5 bonamassa heads!!

Well...  I have been using the JB-100 for a long time.. Its great.. Have 3 .. Two in Black and One in Silver...  The other amp is a prototype of a Jubilee style amp... I have 7 original Jubilees.  I love them as you know.  Don has really done the un doable and really got the Jubilee sound and effects loop nailed.  The other two knobs are for higher gain settings..  I dont really use that much gain but others do.. So they are good for those applications.. I honestly only spent 45 mins with the new amp... It sounded great though..  Im a tough character when it comes to Jubilees...  I said to him after 3 mins... Congratulations.. You made the first Jubilee since 1987..

Re: category 5 bonamassa heads!!

Gah!

Begone foul GAS!!  smile

Re: category 5 bonamassa heads!!

Wouldn't it be great if category 5 would sell these at a reasonable price? So there u have it an amp that nailed the jub that guitar god mr bonamassa has put his name on it are these gonna be stupidly over priced ?? All Marshall lovers own dsl or vintage moderns that type of amp trying to get the jub sound will be gasing after this but will this amp reach the real fans ???? I would like to think that it would but I doubt it!!if Marshall had joes name on there amp would they sell it for at least 1k less???  Man don't you hate it when new toys come about!

Re: category 5 bonamassa heads!!

Didn't Carol Ann also have a Jubilee "clone" in its Revo?  I'd love one of those too.  I imagine a day will come when the Jubilee's will either be re reissued with Joe's name on it or Category 5/Carol Ann will have 2 heads among Joe's shrine 'O amplification big_smile

JB100 (not the new one)
Joe asked us for a Custom '68 Plexi with a tighter bottom, smoother top, effects loop, a little extra gain, and mid boost to replace his original '74. We added some Category 5 mojo to the circuit to make the JB-100 Custom 68. Transformers by Mercury Magnetics & caps from SoZo. The face plate and knob styling replicates the original offset Marshall JTM45.

Pricing starts at $3750, more details coming soon...

Re: category 5 bonamassa heads!!

Hey Joe,

I spoke with Don from Cat 5 at the Dallas Guitar Show, and your new  Cat 5 "Jubilee" really intrigued me... He hinted that these puppies are going to replace the Jubilee for the live setup.  Is he just hoping for that, or are you actually considering the change?

Based on the fact you only spent 45 min with the amp, I'm guessing no... just thought I would go straight to the source.

Re: category 5 bonamassa heads!!

What I can't wrap my head around is the price of around $3700, when that seems to be able to get a real deal Silver Jubilee. hmm

$3700 will buy you, should buy you an extremely pristine Silver Jub. And cabs!

Maybe Don has hit onto something that's missing from the originals? I don't have that kind of money so I'd love to hear what the reviews are.

Re: category 5 bonamassa heads!!

Getting a little confused here.  Aren't the Carol-Ann amps that Joe uses also designated 'JB100's ?

I am gathering that Joe will be retaining the CA JB100 amp, and replacing the Marshall Jubilee with the Cat5 JB100? ? ?

Re: category 5 bonamassa heads!!

Nothing to be confused about.  He is JB and likes 100 watt amps.  The Carol Ann does a whole different sonic job.  Joe uses the SJ amp as the foundation of his tone, then mixes a second amp for different feels and effects.  He already has a cat 5 JB100 that is a superlead with mid boost, which is mixed with the SJ and primarily used for the theremin and fuzz face type tones, if memory serves correct.

Yes. we are talking about two different amps. The JB100 has been around for years, and now there is a new JB Jub prototype...
